90% of countries in the world run their water in public ownership Even here in the UK, Scotland's water is in public ownership - and they pay less for their water, invest more in their infrastructure, and pay £0 in dividends We are not asking for too much. We want what Scotland has.

“If Hinkley C had been completed, on schedule and within budget, we would still be paying them twice as much for electricity as for onshore wind, and a new gas plant would produce electricity at even higher cost than Hinkley. It is a myth that gas is cheaper than renewables. One big gas price spike from a war or other major disruption costs Britain more than the entire Net Zero project. We saw the economic risk of dependence on fossil fuels when the wars in Ukraine and Iran sent energy bills skyrocketing. When a political party that receives lots of fossil fuel money says you should switch from the cheapest electricity sources to the most expensive, exercise caution. When they claim huge overall savings, best wait until some independent experts have a look before you start celebrating the mathematical miracle.” greenpeace.org.uk/press-cent…

Great column. Next person to interview Farage or Tice should ask if they still stand by their comments that Co2 isn't a pollutant and man-made climate change isn't happening thetimes.com/comment/columni…

Scottish Power post £1.6bn in profits for the first half of this year ALONE Why aren't they paying more tax on this profit? Will the new government pander to industry lobbyists and slash the windfall tax further, or cut profits to bring down our bills? morningstaronline.co.uk/arti…

Britain’s net zero economy is booming, CBI says "There are huge costs to not seeing this transition as an economic opportunity." “There is no tradeoff between economic growth and net zero. Quite the opposite. Net zero is the industrial opportunity of the 21st century.” #EnergySecurity #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #EnergyTransition theguardian.com/environment/…

Battery technology has come on faster than anyone – including renewable energy optimists – could have predicted. Twelve years ago, a grid-scale battery cost around $300 per kWh. Now, batteries cost closer to $60/kWh and we’re starting to approach a real milestone. With wind, solar, energy efficiency, interconnection, grid upgrade and batteries, the economic case for burning fossil and fissile fuels disappears. The fact that batteries can ramp up their delivery very quickly also means that they can take over the job currently done by “peaker” gas turbines that kick on when there is sudden high demand for short periods of time. thenational.scot/news/262874…

UK and Western Europe being brutalized by a "heat dome" fueled by dry African desert air, and "contorted" jet stream. Climate change is the main culprit causing this nearly-unprecedented heat event, otherwise impossible without fossil fuels.

🇪🇸 Spain's electricity in 2000: 56% fossil, 2% solar & wind. By 2026: 44% solar & wind, just 17% fossil. The crossover came in 2023. Gas now sets the price only 15% of the time vs 89% in Italy. More in my forthcoming Substack newsletter 👇 janrosenow.substack.com/

The marginal cost of gas-fired power in the EU has increased by 51% as a result of the escalation in the Middle East. In 2022, Europe and the world learned the hard way, that relying on gas power means high price risk for consumers. Now we're learning the same lesson again.

The math behind the Hinkley Point C disaster is infuriating: EDF just pushed, again, the start-up to 2030 and the cost exploded from an original £18b in 2016 to £49b But how much solar or offshore wind does £49b buy in the real world? THREAD ft.com/content/3a1ccd4b-1faf…
