A question for epidemiologists. Someone said at the UK enquiry that COVID infection rates were still too high in summer 2020. But in July/August they were 1/2000 or lower. In summer 2021 they were consistently higher than 1/100 (ONS survey). What does that mean?

Week ending 3 December vs week ending 17 December. coronavirus.data.gov.uk/deta…
Economic Windfall Should be Obvious to G20 Leaders via chathamhouse.org/2020/11/eco… The neverending (and by now downright tragic) ACT-Accelerator fundraising saga shows that we need a new model to finance common goods for health. Just confiscate it from Bezos et al, I'd say.
Daily UK cases including Excel snafu catchup (2809-0410) 9718. Daily cases in following five days (05-09) 14540. Daily cases in 10-16 October 16228. Not good but not exponential. Maybe a turning point compared to lagging indicators predicting doom.
Cases nearly double today. Technical issue “means the total reported over the coming days will include some additional cases from the period between 24 September and 1 October, increasing the number of cases reported.” coronavirus.data.gov.uk/.
Why have UK COVID cases jumped from 1800 to nearly 3000 in one day? coronavirus.data.gov.uk/case…. Would be useful to have some interpretation of what this means.
When do we get an update on the WHO Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response? There is no website. Told on twitter Anders Nordstrom is head of the secretariat but nothing official. No TORS and no members. Please update @NordstrmAnders.
The Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response has been established at a time when the pandemic is still accelerating. In most of the world the virus is not under control, and cases have doubled in the last six weeks. So why now? Read the analysis by @cliftworks

@CMO_England We were told we would get the same data we got in the Downing Street press conferences when they finished. gov.uk/government/collection… We have not had them since 26 June . Please make the government do what was promised.

In fact the data is completely up the creek. Could we have for the daily UK deaths figure a breakdown by country and setting? These figures fluctuate wildly from day to day but no explanation is ever offered. Not to mention people actually tested every day!
I think skiing holidays were a major culprit - anecdotal evidence 🗣️ Witness the case at the end of January via Singapore, Les Contamines and Brighton. And many other stories. Would any government have been brave enough to stop them in February?
Replying to @AscotBlack
As I read in translation (apologies if my error!) it reads as 'immigrants'. That is not true. Most introductions would have been people living in UK returning from holidays, work, other.
Chris Whitty said this to the Health and Social Care Committee on 5 March.
My thread on March 1. Lockdown took 3 more weeks. I am not a modeller. But it was clear that a death rate of 1% and a population infection rate of 10% would give us 67,500 deaths in the UK. Which is what we have. I thought it would be 0.5% and 20% which gives the same result.

Re UK 14-day travel #quarrantine: Evidence of large number of cases coming from multiple European sources from late Feb. To have had a significant impact, an extensive ban or quarantine obligation, including 4 returning UK citizens, would have been necessary as early as possible.
