Why don’t people understand that?
Just to clarify
It is not Brexit that imposes arduous paperwork on our trade with EU.
It is the EU themselves.
They are not the warm and cuddly people heading towards a better world that some Remoaners imagine.
But a vicious protectionist cartel determined to keep out the rest of the world.
Let's put the blame where it lies.
At least they are catching up.
If the EU swings to the right. I wonder if all the rejoiners will remain as keen?
MP's are stuck in the Westminster bubble. Constituents voted to leave and their MP championed to stay. The people have spoken & we must move forward.
We do not want to go backwards. Power must remain in this country.
We need a leader to take advantage of Brexit, cut red tape, reduce bureaucracy & become competitive in the global markets.
A projected £525 billion saving by leaving the EU and has time goes on the Brexit benefits continue to be evident.

Replying to @TowcesterTolley @MarkVipond
We were a net contributor to the EU and the decline in the EU and growth in the UK economy would mean we would be on the hook for a much larger contribution to the EU slush fund.
We don't need to duplilicate anything because we are independent We just do what we want to and if the protectionist EU makes life difficult, we just trade elsewhere.
Well put. 👍👌
Let me clear a second point up about Brexit:
Brexit wasn't a silver bullet. It was never expected that it would immunise us from failure, or save us the difficult task of having to actually govern ourselves effectively.
Too many people seem to confuse SINCE Brexit with BECAUSE of Brexit.
They see difficulties since leaving as proof that Brexit hasn't worked. When it fact what they are seeing are straightforward domestic political failures.
They get the impression that the Brexit vote was the end of the story, rather than the beginning of a new, exciting chapter.
Brexit wasn't like a wind up toy car where you let it go and it speeds off. It wasn't, to use Air Force parlance, a "fire and forget" event.
To think that Brexiteers promised that Brexit would mean everything was plain sailing from now to eternity is just silly.
Brexit was about returning political power and accountability to where it belongs, Westminster (and eventually locally).
It was about giving politicians we elect and who we can remove the ultimate say. It was about placing issues we had been unable to touch while inside the EU back into democratic contention.
None of this meant we would be unable to falter or fail, as all countries do from time to time. It simply meant that our future is ours, and our failures are ours to own too.
THIS was the point of Brexit. We can no longer blame the EU for all our failings. We have to look to ourselves, and to our politicians.
Our democratic muscles have atrophied and weakened after decades in the EU. We are taking time to rebuild them.
Too many people are frightened of our own sovereignty. They would prefer the comforting bosom of the EU. But that would be a major step backwards.
Our future is ours, if only we can rediscover the courage and desire to govern ourselves.
We need a real leader to take advantage of our freedoms.
This is a problem for the EU lobby.
Now we have left we can see what has happened.
Have we done well?
No
Have we done better than comparable EU economies?
Yes
Did we make the most of Brexit?
No
Can we do more?
Yes
Is the EU the slowest growing trade block in the world?
Yes
Would we have to pay tens of billions £ to be a member of the EU?
Yes
Would we have to scrap most, if not all, of the 70+ trade deals we have done since we left?
Yes
Is our trade with the EU ⬆️ since we left?
Yes
Is our trade with non-EU countries ⬆️ even more?
Yes
The EU are desperate to get the brits back, they are skint & in a mess.
OMG … that’s scary. Clearly Labours plan coming together.
'Get over it': Labour MP Dame Emily Thornberry's message on concerns about reopening 'divisive' Brexit debates.
Thornberry tells @CathyNewman that the UK could re-join the EU without a second referendum if it was included as a manifesto commitment at a general election.
It is odd ? … 5 prime minsters since Brexit didn’t mention this before now & no evidence been forthcoming. I don’t think Burnham is lying, but someone has said something like “I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia was involved” twisted to “they were involved”
This is just not true. As soon as I became foreign secretary I asked the security services the same question and they replied that there was no evidence of any successful interference in the 2016 referendum, by Russia or any other power.
Either the security services have changed their view - which would be very odd - or Burnham is lying about what he has been told. After all Starmer was in power for two years and had access to exactly the same information.

This is key: Foreign Office minister @SDoughtyMP says Russia was NOT successful influencing Brexit referendum
“Did they succeed when it came to the Brexit referendum? Was that an effective attempt?
Stephen Doughty: Well, the security minister has spoken about this before, and he's been very clear that they've attempted to [but] they haven't succeeded. They do attempt to interfere in our processes, have attempted to interfere in a whole number of them. And of course, it's not just Russia, it's other countries, too. but this is a whole society effort.
It’s astonishing that all 5 other Prime Ministers since the referendum chose to keep quiet about it? … Labour interfered with US elections, sending a hundred people to campaign for Clinton. The EU interfered with elections in Hungary … they are all at it. The UK, since Brexit, are still acting like an EU member rather than taking advantage of our freedom. The EU are in a mess & we don’t want to go back into that toxic relationship of blackmail, threats & bullying. “Give us your £8 billion fishing rights, or we will turn the electric off to Jersey” thanks, but no Thxs. #brexit
“The Orange Plague”
The European Parliament is now displaying a naked gold statue of President Trump on a starving man’s back & calling it art. The EU, mocking the President is utterly & completely idiotic & height of stupidity. Typical of these arrogant prats in the EU. Imagine if a naked statue of any other world leader was showcased in the European Parliament. It shows how pathetic the EU is …. an embarrassment.

The UK has more trade deals & lowered tariffs at the WTO, the UK actually levies less customs duties at the border than it did as an EU member. So we have lower tariffs & higher customs revenue, by being outside the EU.
Should the UK be in the EU Customs Union?
EU members have to give the EU 75% of all customs duties collected. The UK collected £5 Billion in customs duties in FY 2025/26.
So the UK is £3.75 Billion better off, being outside the EU customs union.
