Soil temperatures have risen steadily across SC in the past couple of weeks. If you are in an area prone to mini-ring, know that the fungus causing the disease can be active now even if you aren't seeing symptoms. Good time to be on a preventive program.

Great Turfgrass Field Day at PDREC with @aw_gore. Excellent education, weather, and fellowship. Thanks to all of our sponsors contributing to this event and the additional event with @DrBertMcCarty1 earlier this month.
Another field day with @ClemsonTurfPath in the books. A great turnout this morning!

Haven’t posted a #Nematuesday in sometime. Check out our newly updated mist chamber courtesy of the Buildings and Grounds group here at PDREC. We’ve already put this to some good use in testing research plots. Many samples ahead!
Dealt with spring dead spot or large patch in SC and looking for prevention this year? Be sure to watch soil 🌡️ in the week to come. Haven’t tripped the 72F mark yet but cooler weather has arrived and the forecast ahead details consistent low night-⏰ 🌡️.
Thank you to all of the golf course superintendents that strive to produce amazing facilities worldwide. Another big thank you to those that work with academia to enhance research and management by donating time, 💵, space at your facilities, and more.

With the hurricane coming into the Southeast, it would be wise to get a QoI or DMI mixed with Serata or Segway down if you can. If you cannot get it down as soon as you can after the storm. Be safe out there

We crested 80 deg soil temps this week here in our region of SC. For all the Carolina’s managers, be sure to have the right prevention in place for mini-ring as we approach the summer holiday. Waitea is active at these temperatures even though symptoms may not show for months

Keeping with the theme of anterior morphology, check out this Dolichodorus sp. (Awl nematode) found in association with St. Augustinegrass. Awl and sting nematodes have long stylets, but this photo shows the anterior protuberance of the lips at the stylet opening. #Nematuesday
For this #Nematuesday, let's look at Belonolaimus longicaudatus anterior morphology. Sting nematodes have very long body length (i.e., 2-3 mm), long stylets and constriction at the anterior end. These characteristics are helpful for ID.
Interesting nematode samples coming into the lab last week. Check out this Hemicycliophora spp., also known as sheath nematode. Impressive stylet and extra cuticular layer surrounding the body. Looking forward to additional #Nematuesday examples across the summer.

Looking for some off-types, again! Please message me if you have off-types in your ultradwarf bermudagrass greens. Preferably greens that were renovated from bentgrass. Looking for ~40 cup cutter plugs.
Improved weather conditions for warm season grasses has translated to more nematode samples here in SC. Got to see one we do not typically see here in the lab, but can be problematic on turf. Tylenchorhynchus species also known as stunt nematode. #Nematuesday
