Oriens Journal has announced that it will be running a series of articles in which official representatives of the SSPX will be presenting their case in writing, with charitable responses from those who disagree with them. Although one can see some precursors to this kind of dialogue over at OnePeterFive and Pelican+, I would say the project as they have set it up is unique, and a true opportunity for mutual understanding. As you’ll find in this inaugural post, the purpose and methodology are clear and Catholic. A highly commendable initiative and one worth following.

John Byron Kuhner:
« One thing I can say about the Latin Mass, which I suppose Bishop Martin and others see as a threat: the excellence of the Latin Mass, its mystical qualities, its focus on God and spiritual tact (as Shia Leboeuf said of it, “I don’t feel like anyone is trying to sell me a car”) – have become serious drivers of discontent with the Novus Ordo of the Mass.
This is entirely good – many Catholic malcontents today have an option of not leaving the faith but going deeper into it. There is an ancestral benchmark by which we may measure our own efforts. It’s really only a threat if we do not measure up. We have given our musicians fifty years, and they have not written music that can replace Aquinas or Bach or Mozart. Our architects have had fifty years, but almost none of their churches serve as well as the old ones. The Vatican has filled an entire museum with modern religious art from all over the world, and its contents taken together do not rise up to the spiritual value of a few months’ work from the hand of Giotto or Fra Angelico.
Intelligent people can see that in taking modernity over tradition we have traded gold for bronze. They also see that they may have the gold back, if they can find a way around the bishops blocking the way. »

Merry Christmas
“Went to midnight Mass with the family and the readings and prayers really hit hard.
The angels didn’t appear to the king, or the wealthy, or the learned, or the rabbis.
Heaven didn’t open up over a large robust city to emperors and magistrates.
Heaven opened over a field.
A multitude of Heaven’s army appeared to tired shepherds working 3rd shift. Shepherds. At night. When all the predators are hunting their flocks. Night watch, guardians, wide awake and waiting. Expecting danger, but nothing like what they experienced on that most holy night.
Angels appeared to the night watch shepherds and told them to not be afraid, but that they would find the savior of mankind born in such mean estate as shepherds alone would uniquely understand - a manger.
A lot of fuel for future meditation.”

No one has ever thought "everyone received communion the same way, that was such a great sign of unity"
What they do think is, "how come Father Bill uses different words than Father Duplenticy during Mass?"
The Bishop of Charlotte has announced that altar rails, kneelers, and prie-dieus will not be permitted for reception of the Eucharist in the diocese.

Get married. Start a family.
My wife and I married at 21.
To this day I can remember the moment I swiped a debit card for a candy bar or something and didn’t check my bank account. Probably don’t have much more money now than I did then over a decade ago.
You don’t need to wait for the perfect time - it’s not coming. You build a family. You don’t wait until things are perfect.
Don’t wait. If you meet her, propose. You can do it. Get married. Work hard. Start a family. Build the life you want and accept that times will be difficult - we’re all growing and we all die. Have fun. Don’t delay.

Yes indeed, but the Catholic Church should also end the cruel and idiotic suppression of its own ancient Latin liturgy.
Many young Americans are getting interested in Eastern Orthodoxy.
The Roman Catholic Church should respond by opening up as many Eastern Catholic mission Churches as possible around the USA -- and they should do so immediately.
If the youth want the East, give it to them, I say! But give it to them in full Communion with the Bishop of Rome.

Cardinal Cupich honoring a pro-abortion politician would always be awful and contrary to the Faith. But him doing it at this particular moment shows how completely out of touch he and his cohort are.

Archbishop Cordelione should have been made a Cardinal years ago.
Calls from every post-conciliar pope to correct liturgical abuses have had little effect—something more needs to be done. A familiarity with the Traditional Latin Mass has great potential for serving this purpose. | @ArchCordileone

A great article by Julian on the resurrected and booming Catholic Land Movement, with interviews of some farming families and news about the recent trip to Rome to meet Vatican officials. Actual and prospective homesteaders, be sure to read this.
