A new review of 63 studies involving 265,079 people found that cannabis use was associated with higher odds of committing violence—about 2 times the odds in the general population and 2.5 times the odds among psychiatric patients. 🇨🇦 Canada legalized marijuana with a promise to protect youth. A new 2026 study raises a serious warning about how that promise has played out. Researchers in BMC Public Health report that cannabis use has increased across age groups since legalization, with particular concern for youth and young adults ages 16–24. Youth, parents, and service providers called for less access and availability, stronger public education, better treatment services, more family support, and less normalization of cannabis use.
