The Belfast "Circle Line": The Proposal - reconnecting Belfast City Centre with @belfastairport, @BELFASTCITY_AIR, rural villages and commuter towns, with services every 15mins, 6am - Midnight, and later at weekends. BUILD the Circle Line already!

It looks tight.
Relief! @Translink_NI have confirmed that Muckamore Crossing allows for dual tracking.

19/ Christmas Market – is fantastic draw but suffers from its own success with overcrowding, meanwhile Custom House Sq lies vacant. CHSq could operate at same time, with food carts/indie market stalls and
a. Ice rink, with curling(UK’s first)
b. Roller skate disco
c. Mini golf

26 relatively cheap ideas to improve Belfast City Centre TOMORROW and over the next 6 months.
Belfast HAS stuff, but even a diamond needs a polish every once in a while. A thread 🧵...
Too many people drive because too many people have no realistic alternative. Rail services are too infrequent, and buses are stuck in the same traffic as everyone else.
Until Belfast has frequent, reliable public transport that gives people a genuine choice, the congestion will continue.

It’s disappointing to see members of Downpatrick & County Down Railway(@DownRail) continue to troll across social media - not just around the Circle Line Campaign, but also towards groups advocating for the reinstatement of the historic Derry Road route between Portadown and Derry/Londonderry, a project championed by @IntoTheWestRail.
At a time when the All-Island Strategic Rail Review has created more positivity, more momentum and more unity around improving rail across the island than we’ve seen in decades, this kind of negativity makes very little sense.
Heritage rail, modern rail expansion and community advocacy can all complement each other. We should be focused on building better connections, not tearing down ideas or volunteers who are working in good faith. Constructive debate is always welcome - coordinated trolling is not.

The bit where a cyclist would need to use the Sydenham Bypass for the final leg seems to have been edited out(?), but not a bad effort.

Three airports, each with a train line adjacent, yet not one connected to a terminal. Its not that hard to join the dots up.
🚆✈️ Straight off the train and into Manchester Airport. Imagine that!
Heading home from BIPA, frustrated at the slow progress on reopening the Knockmore Line.
The track is already there!
Connecting Belfast International Airport, as well as communities in Ballinderry & Glenavy to Lisburn & Belfast would be a game changer.
Time to actually deliver! @CircleLineBT #knockmoreline #laganvalley

Airport rail connections in NI are probably the easiest problem to solve as most of the infrastructure is already there but the sheer amount of political will and cross departmental co-operation you'd need to actually do it is staggering.
This is exactly what the Belfast Circle Line campaign is working towards. Connecting both Belfast International and Belfast City Airports by rail, not just to the city centre, but to communities across Greater Belfast.
A reliable, affordable alternative to driving, taxis and airport buses. 🚆✈️

Almost 5,000 people already work across Belfast International Airport's campus, with a potential 600 more jobs from Ryanair's £400m investment.
The Belfast Circle Line could connect more people to these employment opportunities by rail, reducing car dependency and widening access to jobs across Greater Belfast. 🚆✈️
EXCLUSIVE | An official bid alongside £67m of public money will be offered up to Ryanair this month as Northern Ireland fights off competition to host the low-cost airline’s £400m hub and 600 new jobs, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/busin…

The thing is that Belfast can do this with both airports and the track is there for one & nearly there for another.
The cost is mostly the new stations.

Mon @Translink_NI / @TranslinkPress - a significant number of Derry ones stranded at Grand Central Station because the single decker 212 at 16:40 was full & sure the rest of us can just wait!
It's Friday. It's 5 O'Clock. Has the logistics woman clocked off?

This highlights why better public transport connections to Belfast International Airport are needed.
It's not just airport passengers who depend on these services. People in Templepatrick need reliable transport too.
The Belfast Circle Line could serve both, connecting the airport and surrounding communities to the wider Greater Belfast area.
Replying to @Translink_NI
Yeah, fourth bus has now passed and not stopped as is full, I’ve been waiting here for nearly an hour. Understand it’s the airport service but there’s also no other option but the airport bus for travelling from Templepatrick
Belfast International Airport needs a reliable rail connection. One that serves not just Belfast city centre, but communities across Greater Belfast.
The Belfast Circle Line could provide exactly that, giving passengers and airport staff a genuine alternative to relying on the road network.
#ULB We have some service adjustments today, the 300 at 08:30 from #Belfast & the 300a at 09:15 from Belfast International Airport will not operate.

The ‘Salmon of Knowledge’ by @VeksVanHillik, via @HittheNorthFestival, is world-class.
But is somewhat spoiled by the fencing around the derelict 100-year-old toilet block at Shaftesbury Square.
Genuine question: why can’t Belfast City Council step in, purchase it, and turn this into a proper public amenity like secure bike parking?
