Secretary Hegseth,
I have close friends who have been reinstated after refusing the mandated COVID vaccines. You stated how they were treated was wrong and allowed them back with back pay, some with additional rank. Thatโs why Iโm writing you.
Iโm being told that military members are still facing vaccine requirements, and the new mRNA flu shot is part of the schedule some commands are treating as mandatory. I implore you to stand up for our volunteer warfighters. They are willing to stand against our enemies. They should not be forced to stand against mandated medical products in the name of ideology or โgreater goodโ science.
Throw these products out, or at minimum halt any mandate that regresses basic rights. As a service member I took every shot when I was young because I believed it was for the greater good. As an adult paramedic who has seen the damage firsthand, Iโve grown enough to write this request.
Please stand with and for our soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors, Space Force, and Coast Guard. They already carry enough without being forced into decisions that can affect their health for the rest of their lives.

And one thing keeps coming up.
Washingtonians are told what new revenue will fund and what results we can expect.
But over time, funding rules change. Accounts get restructured. Budget priorities shift.
And now we have a new 9.9% income tax.
Weโre told it starts with income over $1 million.
But what about tomorrow?
What guarantees that threshold wonโt be lowered? What protects the original spending promises? And whoโs measuring whether weโre actually getting the results?
These arenโt accusations. Theyโre questions worth asking when we look at the history of how Washington manages public money.
Iโve managed budgets for 30 years, and hereโs what I know:
You audit before you ask for more.
Before Olympia asks Washingtonians for another dollar, we deserve transparency, accountability, and measurable results from the dollars already collected.
We are not undertaxed. We are underaudited.
Follow the money. Measure the results.

Grant County explores recovering misallocated tax funds from state
Oct. 12, 2026
EPHRATA โ Grant County officials are investigating whether the county is owed money from motor vehicle excise tax funds that were misallocated by the state in previous years, Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines told county commissioners Monday.
Gaines said he plans to ask the county engineer to work with the Washington State Association of Counties and determine whether Grant County experienced a shortfall similar to one identified in another Washington county.
The issue came to Gainesโ attention after Grant County Commissioner Kevin Burgess shared information about Clallam County, which reportedly requested reimbursement from the state for misallocated funds. According to Gaines, the amount involved in Clallam Countyโs request ranges from approximately $1.2 million to $1.9 million.
โActually, it belongs in the counties. We just never received it,โ Gaines said Monday morning of the money.
Gaines said he intends to contact the appropriate county and association representatives to determine how much Grant County may be owed and whether counties can work together to seek reimbursement from the state.
The potential recovery effort comes as Washington counties prepare their legislative priorities ahead of the state Legislatureโs 2027 session. Gaines reviewed several priorities during Mondayโs meeting, including requests for additional public defense funding, jail modernization grants and changes to local government liability laws.
He said counties could potentially strengthen their efforts by coordinating with one another to address the disputed motor vehicle excise tax funds.
โIf the counties are actually gonna work together and try and form some coalition that forces the state to pass that money back, it was misappropriated and belongs to the counties,โ Gaines said Monday morning.
No specific amount has been identified for Grant County, and Gaines did not announce a formal reimbursement request during Mondayโs update. The countyโs potential shortfall will need to be determined before officials can assess what action to take.

If your doctor or a family memberโs doctor is an International Medical Graduate who cannot communicate clearly, appears unqualified, or leaves you feeling unsafe, take it seriously.
This is not rare. Multiple states now allow provisional or fast-track licensing that lets foreign-trained physicians practice without completing a full U.S. residency. Some of those pathways have accepted questionable credentials. Communication problems are frequent. Hospitals and clinics often prefer these physicians because they cost less and follow protocols more readily than many U.S.-trained doctors.
The result is a two-tier system. Miscommunication produces wrong diagnoses, medication errors, and avoidable complications. Documented cases of credential fraud and uneven training standards have already surfaced. Patient safety is being traded for lower labor costs and institutional compliance.
What to do:
Write everything down. Dates, times, exact statements or actions, names of people involved, and why the care felt unsafe. Save visit notes, lab results, and prescriptions. Clear records matter if you file a complaint. Write it down and stick to the record.
If you cannot communicate with the person treating you, they cannot deliver real care. Look up the instructions that are given to a patient discharged after a cardiac event and honestly think about if someone with broken English could ever relay all the important information.

Here is an excerpt from a great email I received from a frustrated WA K-12 school district superintendent. This part of the email has to do with the Running Start program--a program we like.
In the recent Olympia legislative session, the current governor and his supporters cut funding from Running Start, the program that allows high school kids to take classes at nearby community colleges on a dual-enrollment basis.
As usual, Ferguson & Co made these cuts it in the dumbest way.
This superintendent's "guess" is right: community colleges that host Running Start students benefit on multiple financial levels at once. THAT formula needs to be reformed so that the K-12 school districts sending kids to Running Start aren't penalized financially for doing so.
Again, it's a program we like.
The governor's crude budget cuts to Running Start are the wrong approach. The money side of the program can be reformed in a way that reduces the "double dip" and more equitably distributes resources between colleges and school districts. That's the smarter way to economize.
