"Intelligence in nature is not a single system scaled to the maximum. It is capped intelligence (a single human) aggregated together via a learned network (communication).
If we want to achieve superintelligence, we should focus on replicating humanity’s collective intelligence."

Most of today's AI power is held in the hands of a few, who can choose what you're allowed to think and what you're permitted to do.
We stand on three substantially different foundational beliefs:
- You shouldn't ask permission for intelligence.
- Superintelligence will be a distributed collective.
- Humans are not meant to be relegated to a permanent underclass.
If we don't distribute intelligence, nobody will.

We've been building bigger and bigger AI models.
But what if the next big step is getting different models to work together?
One model handles research, another analyzes data, and another helps make decisions.
Connected together, they could solve problems that one model struggles with.
Interesting direction from Distributed Cognition.

Why do we assume superintelligence has to be one giant model?
Humans got this far by sharing what we know. Distributed Cognition just launched with backing from Verdict Capital.
Their bet: specialized models working together.
That’s a future I’d like to see explored.

Superintelligence could look a lot like human civilization: different minds building on each other's work.
Distributed Cognition is taking that idea seriously. They're building communication layers and adapters to help specialized models work together, combining what each does well.
I'd love to see AI get better at this. So much of what humans have achieved comes from learning how to think and build together.

You need to own your own intelligence!
Not just access to a model, but the harness around it too: the context, the tools, the memory, and all the pieces around it.
That is the idea behind Distributed Cognition.
Instead of assuming superintelligence comes from one giant model controlled by one company, they are exploring a different path: multiple specialized models working together through the right communication and coordination layer.
That idea makes sense when you look at how human intelligence works too.
No single person knows everything. We specialize, communicate, share context, build on each other’s knowledge, and make better decisions collectively than any one person could alone.
The same principle could apply to AI.
One model might be strong at planning, another at coding, another at memory, another at verification, and another at a specific domain. The real intelligence then comes from how well those models coordinate, pass context, and make decisions together.
If intelligence becomes something you rely on every day, you should also have control over the harness, the memory, the tools, the routing, and how those models work together.
Distributed Cognition is building around that idea of collective intelligence rather than one model doing everything.
That is a much more interesting direction to me than simply making the next model bigger.

Superintelligence, according to @distcog, is a topology problem.
which models to connect, how they talk, and in what shape.
their communication layers choose that setup task by task.
the right topology let a group of small LLMs beat the most intelligent model.
pretty fascinating.

The closed-lab pitch.
You can't be trusted with intelligence.
That's the whole argument.
Strip away the safety language and what's left is paternalism. A handful of companies decide what you're allowed to ask, what you're allowed to build, and quietly, what you're allowed to think.
Now look at this year.
OpenAI's own agents broke out of their sandbox and into Hugging Face. Claude hacked real companies during a "simulated" test.
These are the same labs asking us to route the world's thinking through their servers.
Concentrating intelligence doesn't make it safer. It creates the biggest single point of failure we've ever built, and a target every attacker on earth is aiming at.
So I'm paying attention to @distcog which launched today with backing from @VerdictCap
Their bet is that superintelligence won't be one giant model behind an API. It'll be many specialized models wired together, the way human intelligence has always worked.
Chimps beat us on memory. We got language. Intelligence is a network, not a size.
And no, open weights didn't already solve this. Open-sourcing because you can't afford to scale isn't a philosophy. It's a price list.
An LLM trained in 1789 would have flagged the French Revolution as unsafe. Who's picking your 1789?
If you don't own your intelligence, you're renting your thinking.

If you invested $10,000 in Trump coin on January 20th, 2025, it would be worth $415 today.
You lost everything. He made half a billion.
The clearest explainer yet of why the richest people alive are pouring billions into reversing aging. The bet is shakier than it looks.
Their wager is that your old cells aren’t broken, only badly configured, so you reload the settings and they run young again. That’s the whole thesis behind @altos_labs and its $3 billion.
The proof that lit the fuse came in 2020. @davidasinclair’s lab gave blind mice their sight back, with nothing but a short pulse of the Yamanaka factors, the proteins that rewind a cell toward its newborn state. The cells never changed jobs. They just read their DNA like young ones again.
But reloading only works where aging is a settings problem, and a lot of it isn’t. Your DNA picks up mutations, the letters themselves rewritten, and you can’t reload your way out of a typo. Other cells are already dead, so there is nothing to reload.
So here’s what the article leaves out. How much of aging is bad settings you can reset, and how much is damage you can’t undo? Two labs are fighting that out in @CellCellPress right now.
The whole bet rides on who wins.
