Dear Fellow SAG-AFTRA Members, “At last, the tide seems to be turning.” That’s the message we’re hearing from our local presidents as SAG-AFTRA urges members to voice support for federal film and television incentives. Bringing production home and putting our members back to work are goals worth fighting for. (actionnetwork.org/letters/mo… ) But our union needs your help in another way, too. It’s vital that our leadership knows how widespread the demand is for transparency, accountability, and meaningful protections for the people this union exists to serve. SAG-AFTRA has made sending a letter to Congress easy. Members deserve equally straightforward access to answers about our union’s finances, executive compensation, bargaining decisions, and the evidence behind the promises made in our names. As I’ve argued on my Substack, members should be able to examine the records, understand where their dues go, and ask difficult questions and receive clear, documented answers. That includes asking how leadership’s priorities translate into jobs, fair residuals, stronger benefits, and enforceable protections against AI exploitation. When we’re asked to rally behind a legislative campaign, we should also ask: What commitments will ensure the benefits reach working performers? How will success be measured? And how will members hold leadership accountable for the results? I urge you to please participate. Write to your representatives. Write to your union leadership. Read the financial disclosures. Ask for the supporting evidence. Every letter counts. Every dues dollar counts. Every member counts. Our commitment to defending this profession must include holding our own union accountable.
