Survey costs are rising and response rates are declining. So, what actually gets people to participate?
A new NORC innovation brief tests six incentive strategies and shares what works, what doesn't, and what it means for survey design.
View the findings: go.norc.org/4yLg4ue

ALT A graphic titled "What increases survey response rates?" includes three bullet points: 1) Increasing payment doesn't affect quality, with consistent answers across various payment amounts and schedules. 2) Raising upfront payments from $5 to $15 increased early responses. 3) Splitting payments increased work for researchers without improving participation. The NORC at the University of Chicago logo is at the bottom right.
Kudos to @OhioState Prof. Sarah Hayford for being featured in @USATODAY, offering counterpoints to new research tying #smartphones to declining #births. @srhayford is a valued #CHRR collaborator, & we’re excited to work w/her on an upcoming Center for Aging Families survey.

Props to @OhioState researchers Emily Nothnagle (@emnothn) & Prof. Chris Knoester, who are earning big media attn for finding ties between violent acts & certain sports histories, notably heavy-contact sports. 🏈 #CHRR is a proud partner on the @NSASS2017 survey behind the data.
“Our findings challenge the common notion that sports are inherently good.” An @OhioState study suggests that simply playing organized youth sports doesn’t reduce the likelihood of committing violence in one’s lifetime, and in some cases, may increase it. news.osu.edu/participating-i…
How are Americans using federal data? A new NORC study finds nearly 1 in 10 U.S. adults are regular users, from tracking neighborhood crime rates, to monitoring inflation to fact-checking arguments.
