It took Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Conduent MORE than 9 months to disclose a MAJOR data breach, which included people's medical records, SSNs, contact info, etc. brownsbookshelf.ca/blogs/pos…

AI increases power use, but the numbers don’t support the panic. 2024 data-centre use: 415 TWh (1.5% of global electricity). Most of that isn’t AI. Most of that was video streaming and social media. Full analysis + sources: 🔗 brownsbookshelf.ca/blogs/pos… #AI #Climate #Energy

“Just stay on Windows 10.” Or my favourite: “Install Windows 7, it still works!” Meanwhile: kernel escalation, GDI+ overflow, preview-pane RCE… Nostalgia isn’t a security policy. Legacy OS's are not secure. Full write-up on the blog. #infosec #CVE

🇨🇦 Law 25 vs. the AI OS: We built strong laws against explicit surveillance. But what about the implicit threat of continuous AI inference? Unsolicited remote desktop was the old worry. The algorithm that never logs out is the new one. #PrivacyParadox #AIEthics #Loi25

Privacy is no longer secrecy; it's agency. Per Quebec's Loi 25, the right to information regarding automated decisions MUST apply directly to the OS's proprietary inference logs. We demand clarity.

If the OS has become a mirror of the self, we must demand to see our reflection before we pass it downstream to the cloud. Read why I call it "Le Contrôle Muet" (The Silent Control): brownsbookshelf.ca/blogs/pos…

What does Canadian sovereignty really mean in 2025? In "The 49th Line", it means trusting code to defend us - not with loyalty, but with logic. The border isn’t a wall. It’s a sovereign line. What if it actually gets crossed? #CanadaDay #SpeculativeFiction #NewRelease

"The 49th Line" wasn't written to scare anyone. I wrote it because the language of war is already changing. Trade wars, rhetoric, annexation. Fiction lets us say the things no one wants to hear out loud. #CanadaDay #canadianpolitics

A very long comment thread fulla bad takes...
According to Christopher Nolan, there's a lot less information on Google than you might think: “Google are not as powerful as people think in terms of information collation. They’re more powerful than people realize in all kinds of areas, such as collecting data on your movements. They’re very good at that. But in a data search, the outcome is always limited. An interesting experiment would be to walk into a library, and go to a book, open the book at a random page, find a fact or piece of information, write it down. Do that ten times, and then go online and see how many of those ten you can find. Our feeling is that 90 percent of the information is online. I have a suspicion the real answer is 0.9 percent.”
