Throwing everything at the ragù for dinner. Smoked pancetta, black garlic, port, porcini, fresh basil, and two hours on the stove.

I’m on a group at the university who is helping to design a flagship new teaching space, which is rather fun. Although it’s quite strange to find yourself venturing a professional opinion at lunch about things you never really expected to in your career. Is this the right chaise?

Some of the choices though. Glad they asked. Not at all chic. And in that colour?

Apologies. I forgot you would have to be chronically online to get this. As it happens, I could only see an old man or a member of Daft Punk.

Quite how significant it actually was is obviously unclear, but *every* outlet this is reported on highlights the HQ location. I’ve only seen that detailed as a resistance to being dual-located, but it is telling that almost everyone is reading the same thing into it.
NEW: Britain is walking away from joining the Canada-led international Defence, Security & Resilience Bank @FT first revealed last month that the UK was exploring the proposal, including an option to merge the DSRB with the Multilateral Defence Mechanism (MDM), a separate UK-spearheaded international defence initiative. Talks broke down over merger, including disagreement about locations of proposed headquarters, acc to officials briefed on the matter. Via @GeorgeWParker & me ft.com/content/1f7924c1-ab63…

Seemed like I may as well watch the second. It doesn’t feel in the slightest bit necessary, but 🤷

Found myself on the front row for opening/press night of ‘Classic Penguins’, an unhinged late-night naked one-man audience-participatory comedy semi-circus show about Penguin Classic books. With latex gloves, a food fight, and Penguin bars.

I'm not really sure that those talking about this really understand that there are different ways of approaching this. Firstly, this isn't accompanied by one of the most important factors - one's science teacher. 65% of science teachers are female. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c69w…

It's not necessarily the case that many female scientists have been erased from a hegemonic science curriculum by a group of men in STEM. It's that a lot of the science done by female scientists isn't of the kind of level that would go on a GCSE science exam in a meaningful way.

Which isn't to say that you shouldn't ensure that female scientists are highlighted when they were behind the scenes, sidelined or ignored. You do it in a way that explains why there aren't many female historical scientific figures. But science's history, is its history.
