🇵🇸 Rapper Macklemore says nine major US arenas refused to host his Free Palestine benefit tour, including Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, Kia Forum, Crypto(dot)com Arena and Chase Center.
He said venues offered him dates, but "once they found out these were benefit shows for Palestine, these dates were suddenly off the table."
"In over twenty years of touring, I've never experienced anything like this," Macklemore wrote on Instagram on Friday, adding that "a handful of billionaires can decide which causes are acceptable."
Madison Square Garden's explanation was that Macklemore, a four-time Grammy winner, is "not an arena-level act." His Free Palestine shows in Europe (London, Dublin, and Paris) already sold out three arenas.
He launched the tour after being dropped from Ed Sheeran's tour in September over pro-Palestine remarks at MetLife Stadium. "There will be more shows for Palestine," he wrote yesterday.

“Changed their name” is a facetious simplification of what they did.
UDP is new super PAC they created a few years ago, with intentions of completely shifting over eventually to fly under the radar, as AIPAC was/is garnering extreme public backlash. The transition was intentionally slower, to make it seem like they're separate PACs, operating individually.
AIPAC is essentially the parent company, while UDP is their new deceptively "moderate" presenting branch to divert criticism.
A few weeks ago, AIPAC officially announced that they are no longer funding our candidates. It is an intentionally misleading message, to make you think that they're completely disconnected...when in fact they own UDP and have funneled over $100 million into our elections this year ALONE.

AIPAC just changed their name to the United Democracy Project (UDP), thinking we wouldn’t notice…
They pulled any continued funding under their prior PAC, in an attempt to disassociate from the hate they receive regularly, and throw us off their track.
You cannot hide.

Google is trying to use its monopoly power to force AI into our public schools.
No corporation should have the power to dictate how we teach our children.
Our public schools exist to serve students, not to grow the profit margins of Big Tech.

Adam Robinson died Sunday in a jet crash with his wife and two little kids.
He built tools that take an anonymous visit to a website and turn it into a real name and contact info. His company kept a digital file on people.
That's the raw material of a surveillance state. Data like this doesn't stay in marketing. It gets bought, merged, and fed into the same systems that track where you go, what you read, and who you are.
But he did it differently. He bootstrapped everything. He never took big VC money, and there was no board pushing him to grow the data as fast as possible or sell to someone bigger. He kept his companies lean and profitable, so he got to decide how far the data went, who got it, and under what rules.
Most founders in this space lose that option once the money comes in.
A surveillance state runs on cheap, easy access to personal information. It doesn't love founders who can say no and stay independent.
Who controls these companies matters more than people realize. When the founder still has control, the limits stay tight. When he doesn't, the data flows wherever the power wants it.

Just last month, DoorDash couldn’t seem to find the money to pay their deliveristas — until our administration forced them to give back $131M+ in stolen wages and penalties.
This week, they’ve managed to find $17 billion to acquire one of their main competitors.
Corporate consolidation means higher prices, harsher exploitation, and greater economic inequality for New Yorkers.
We’ve stood up to these giants before. That doesn’t stop now.
