If President Trump seeks to “Make Americans Safe Again,” he should address the root causes of Haiti’s crisis, write @ChrisShell95 and Zuri Linetsky.

In my latest for @ForeignPolicy, I argue that how we currently understand and discuss race in the U.S. erases important nuances within groups, leading to serious miscalculations and oversights in political strategy.

Biden and Harris ran for president as candidates of the system, right down to campaigning with Dick Cheney’s daughter, Liz.
As Democrats reckon with the future of their party, foreign policy must be part of the reckoning.

On this day in 1920, a white mob in Ocoee, Florida, lynched dozens of Black Americans and razed the Black community, because a Black man attempted to vote. calendar.eji.org/racial-inju…

Please disaggregate. #ADOS men are being vilified & it’s not even them.
Thrilled to announce that @BrookingsGov published my commentary, "Not like us? Exploring foreign-born Black men’s distinct voting patterns in the 2020 election." #blm #blackpolitics

A higher share of foreign-born Black American men voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election compared to U.S.-born and second-generation Black American men, finds @RyonCobb.

Replying to @MasonH0lland
I completely agree. The days of flat-Blackness are long gone. I hope when Barack was cajoling Black men into voting for Kamala he was talking to Black immigrant men as well

It's ridiculous for Trump to claim to be the anti-war candidate and it's also ridiculous that that lane has been left wide open for him.
Fascinating finding. More specificity is needed when we talk about "Black" voters.

Amid recent discussions around VP Harris' efforts to engage parts of the Black electorate, I'm resharing this piece I wrote for @ForeignPolicy a few months ago. I argue that policy makers would do well to speak to the Black community's longstanding anti-war sensibilities.
4/Regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, White and Hispanic Americans are far more polarized than Black Americans on the issue of pushing Israel towards a ceasefire and hostage exchange.
2/Key findings: On immigration, Harris supporters are the most supportive of legal status for undocumented immigrants. Among Trump supporters, Hispanic voters were more support for this than their Black or White counterparts.

“Americans will continue to lose faith in their country’s democracy if we do not marry foreign and domestic policy in an effort to prioritise the common good over shameless profit seeking.”
My essay today in @FT on why the next era of American foreign policy must be focused on confronting and weakening concentrated economic power - in both the public and private sectors. ft.com/content/1c99b858-54d8…

The next president has an opportunity to bring change to U.S. foreign policy — but will face huge obstacles at every turn.
A pleasure to speak with @SophiaBesch alongside @CChivvis about how Harris or Trump should chart a new course.

How does race influence American voters' perspectives on the Israel-Hamas war?
A survey by @CEIPStatecraft & @YouGov shows that the partisan divide on support for a ceasefire is sharpest among White Americans, writes @ChrisShell95 👇

How are Americans thinking about foreign policy ahead of the election? What foreign policy issues are top of mind for voters, and which candidate do they believe will best manage them? @ChrisShell95 investigates in his new @CarnegieEndow article: carnegieendowment.org/resear…

Growing tensions between the U.S. & China have generated a pessimistic vision for the future of the relationship. @CEIPStatecraft’s newest compilation, edited by @CChivvis and featuring a dozen authors, takes on the question of how China and the US might coexist peacefully and lays out a roadmap for policymakers to establish a calmer, more realistic relationship.
