Check out our surprising finding in nuclear invagination's function: regulating ribosome biogenesis. Nuclear tunnels = more ribosomes! I am proud of my talented student @YinyinZhuang, and inspiring collaborators @wtzhaolab, @ChrisEMiles, and @razorenovalab!

Super grateful for this award & excited for the plans! New stochastic models for understanding spatial mechanisms of gene expression (e.g., from spatial transcriptomics) alongside new peer support networks for first-gen students across career stages (myself included!)

Myosin stickers connect actin fibres to form cell buildup. Rapid binding and unbinding of #myosin challenge numerical investigations 🖥️, limiting our mechanistic understanding. With @ChrisEMiles, we found a math-based recipe to speed things up💡! doi.org/10.1063/5.0139036

A preprint with my @mcsb_uci master's student Pei Tan! We ask if you can tell whether a collective has more than 1 type of agent while being clueless about all other underlying details and interactions

we explore other odds & ends, including how well this generalizes to other models, e.g., the D’Orsogna model

the question & approach were inspired by lots of cool work on the “data science” of collective motion, all with more insightful & fancy methods than ours, e.g., neighbor interactions by @DannyRajM1, TDA by @chadtopaz

super grateful for the Hellman & the opportunity to be involved with the academic journeys of the amazing @cal_bridge students!
Congratulations to @ucimath Asst. Prof. Chris Miles who has been named a 2023 Hellman Fellow. Chris is a first-generation college graduate who works in the field of mathematical biology. He is also a @cal_bridge mentor math.uci.edu/~cemiles/chris.…

fun times at #SIAMDS23 with brilliant mathematicians able to quantify anything except the right amount of food to order! already looking forward to 2025!
Check out the accidental overordering! Ended up with one gigantic hotpot per person after a long day of #SIAMDS23 ⁦@ChrisEMiles⁩

This is a long shot, but is there anyone in Southern California who's available to present a physics colloquium on Monday Nov 7 at 11? We provide good conversation, lunch, and a modest honorarium. DMs are open.

can anyone recommend a modern undergrad math biology text? I love the classics (Edelstein-Keshet, deVries, Murray) but I feel they're too focused on model analysis rather than the holistic process of model construction + data comparison that current math bio often entails
