108 years ago today, a red-headed farmer from Pall Mall, Tennessee did something in the Argonne Forest that still doesn't seem real. Alvin York grew up dirt poor, a hard drinker and brawler, until a religious conversion in his twenties changed his whole life. When the draft notice came in 1917, he asked to be exempted as a conscientious objector. His church opposed war and so did he. The Army said no. His battalion commander spent hours going through the Bible with him, trying to convince him that a man could fight and still be right with God. York went home on leave, prayed on it for two days on a mountainside, and came back ready. On the morning of October 8, 1918, York was one of 17 men sent to slip behind German lines and knock out machine guns near Chatel-Chehery, France. They surprised a group of Germans and captured them. Then the machine guns on the ridge above opened up. Six Americans were killed instantly and three more went down wounded, including the sergeant in charge. That left Cpl. York in command of seven men, most of them pinned flat guarding prisoners. So York went to work. Every time a German gunner raised his head to fire, York shot him. He'd been shooting turkeys in the Tennessee hills since he was a kid and he was not missing at that range. When six Germans charged him with bayonets, he drew his pistol and dropped all six, starting with the last man and working forward, so the ones in front wouldn't realize what was happening. A German officer, Lt. Paul Vollmer, emptied his pistol at York and missed every shot. Watching his men fall one after another, Vollmer finally called out in English and offered to surrender the whole position if York would stop shooting. York agreed. Then he used Vollmer to order other German positions to give up as they marched back through the woods. By the time he reached American lines, York had killed 25 men and was herding 132 prisoners in front of him with a handful of survivors. When a general told him he'd heard York captured the whole German army, York said "No sir. I got only 132." He was promoted to sergeant and received the Medal of Honor. New York threw him a ticker tape parade. Companies offered him a fortune to endorse their products and he turned almost all of it down. He went home to Tennessee, married his sweetheart, and spent years raising money to build a school for kids in the mountains who had no shot at an education. When Hollywood finally made his story in 1941, he agreed partly to fund a Bible school. Gary Cooper won the Oscar for playing him. The man who didn't want to go to war became the most famous American soldier of it.

Over 70 percent of you are younger than I am by a few decades. My editor recently asked me what I hope the American public understands about my generation. This was my answer: My generation often faced impossible situations, but we accepted the missions we were given. As stated in Isaiah 6:8: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" We may not have been the greatest generation, but we are their proud sons and daughters, and we learned from them. I think we made them proud.

My wonderful aunt who lives in Runnels County, Texas captured this spectacular sunset from their property out in the country! The night sky is also spectacular in such places where the stars just seem to sparkle in an almost pitch black sky.

On August 27, 2026 at 11:12 PM CDT the Moon will appear almost completely red as up to 96.2% of it slides into Earth's shadow. Hope y'all can get a good view! It won't be until New Year's Eve 2028 that we get another chance to view a Lunar Eclipse this good!

PPD is real but is becoming a wastebasket diagnosis. If you were depressed before and during pregnancy, I would expect it to worsen postpartum. It’s a common sense thing. It’s becoming overplayed and over diagnosed. Baby blues are normal and common. PPD was never supposed to be common. It was supposed to be the exception to the rule. Additionally PPD can have something to do with mindset considering depression has a bit to do with rumination. It’s at least a factor, but a good deal of that postpartum depression could be nutritional, hormonal, and sunlight exposure. You can be too sleep deprived to know how to take care of yourself. I’ve been there, but it was only with my first for very specific environmental reasons I wouldn’t expect most women to experience unless they were totally isolated and disenfranchised from family. I don’t think women know how to take care of themselves postpartum anymore, so they expect their husbands to do it—but he doesn’t know either. It’s very stupid to expect him to know what you don’t when it comes to having a baby. It literally is a “nut up” moment for women. Toughen up. Babies don’t stay babies for long. At best you’ll feel better in 3 months. At worst, it’ll be a year. Either way, you’re running out the clock.

This is a perfect example of how smart people often have no "theory of mind" for lower-IQ or lower-morality people. Karl Marx had this hilarious error when he claimed that after the revolution, in the worker's paradise, the working class would sit around fencing and writing poetry. They would be morally transformed. Mr. Diamandis is making a similar claim; that the lower classes of people would be morally transformed by an AI tutor. They're both wrong. What the lower class will do is primarily watch porn. If they research anything, it'll be how to buy drugs online. They're "low class" because either they lack the intellectual capacity to be high class or the moral character to want to be. Neither of those things is entirely teachable either, as each has a significant genetic component.
If you gave every human on Earth their own AI tutor, personalized to their learning style, available 24 hours a day in their native language, completely free, it would perhaps be the single greatest equalizer in the history of civilization.

This is a wonderful clip of Marlon Brando talking about Native Americans. Please watch, it only goes for a few minutes. The thing to take away from this is the capacity which Whites have for self-examination and introspection and self-correction. It's one of your greatest moral strengths. It is only bad when you begin to believe that the other side of any conflict was purer than the driven snow. My people, the Comanche, wanted the entire plains. We conquered the Kiowa then allied with them. We defeated the Apaches and drove them West. We nearly exterminated the cannibal Tonkawa. We beat the Mexicans so badly and raided so deeply into Mexico proper that they begged White Americans come and settle Texas as a buffer between them and us. We pushed your frontier back for a long time. We were the Lords of the Southern Plains. We took many scalps. We took many slaves. Our empire--and that is what it was--reached from Kansas and Colorado in the north to the Mexican interior in the south. Had the Americans under the dreaded Colonel Ranald S. Mackenzie--a man who finished first in his West Point class--not defeated us, we would have eventually brought the other tribes under our sway and rules the plains entirely. We were mighty. It was a contest we wanted, and it was a contest we lost to you. There is no need to be filled with remorse. We are Comanche still, but we are now also Americans. Your strength is ours, and ours is yours. You are my brothers and sisters. The past is gone.

C.S. Lewis warned in The Abolition of Man that whoever controls the curriculum controls the soul. 16,000 hours is how long the modern school claims to shape that soul. Homeschooling isn't opting out of education. It's opting back into authority God actually gave you.
