👀 In canceling the maternal and infant mortality grants, HHS said those issues were no longer a priority for the office and grants would instead focus on "low sperm count, low testosterone levels and erectile dysfunction." 👇
Scoop: HHS's Office of Minority Health has cancelled 16 grants, several focused on maternal/infant health, telling grantees it's pivoting to a focus on the root causes of infertility and promoting exercise. with @EricM_Katz notus.org/health-science/hhs…

This is a deeply corrupt system, where the Trump admin is trying to trick immigrants into missing court hearings by rapidly rescheduling the time and location of hearings and not sending out notices in time.
They want people to miss court. That’s the clear goal.
SCOOP: Immigrants are being rapidly reassigned to in-person immigration court hearings at buildings that are not immigration courts + with minimal notice. The pop-up courts come as EOIR is looking to rapidly acquire space throughout the country.

It should be clear to everyone what this traffic circle really needs: a Wendy’s
We are pleased to announce that after a very long wait (over 125 years!), we are preparing to start, over the next two-week period, the excavation work necessary for the Great Triumphal Arch and Military Observation Deck, at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. This will be one of the Great Pieces of American Architecture, honoring the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and befitting the most powerful Capital in the World.

For the nation’s 200th birthday, Washington built a metro system, museums, gardens, and reflecting pool at the Capitol.
For the 250th, it’s filled with black fences, white tarps, green algae, and brown grass.
A look at the mess that is DC:

Kristen Clarke did not leave the Justice Department quietly. She left, took the general counsel position at the NAACP, marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday in March, and then sat down to explain precisely what was done.
The cases her division spent years building — carefully constructed voting rights enforcement actions — were "withdrawn from the courts, dismissed without basis, without any justification offered to the public." No explanation. No legal rationale offered. Gone.
She documented what replaced the people who built those cases: "reckless, sloppy work." Missing filing deadlines. Typos in court filings. An official who accidentally revealed a federal civil rights probe in a social media post. "Its ranks are now being filled by people who are inexperienced, who don't know what they're doing, who've never enforced federal laws before."
The Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department is the unit that enforced the Voting Rights Act, pursued discriminatory redistricting, and brought cases against jurisdictions that systematically blocked minority voters. Clarke calls it "nothing more than a shadow of its former self."
She is now general counsel at the organization that will litigate against the department she built. The person who wrote those cases is now the person who will try to bring them back in court.
That is not a footnote. That is the next chapter.
NEW: In 2021, Kristen Clarke became the first Black woman to serve as the Department of Justice’s civil rights chief. Five years later, she says the department has “fully retreated from the mission.” democracydocket.com/news-ale…

DOGE cut 7000 jobs at the Social Security Admin and closed 50 field offices, and now they’re struggling to respond to up to 6 million pending cases in its processing centers and 12 million transactions in its field offices.
Now they’ll say it’s broken and must be privatized.

This is Trump’s long game.
We’ve spent years cracking down on fraudsters. It’s a serious issue - but this has been his plan all along.
He’s politicizing the issue to defund programs that help Minnesotans.
We have frozen all child care payments to the state of Minnesota.
You have probably read the serious allegations that the state of Minnesota has funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to fraudulent daycares across Minnesota over the past decade.
Today we have taken three actions against the blatant fraud that appears to be rampant in Minnesota and across the country:
1. I have activated our defend the spend system for all ACF payments. Starting today, all ACF payments across America will require a justification and a receipt or photo evidence before we send money to a state.
2. Alex Adams and I have identified the individuals in @nickshirleyy's excellent work. I have demanded from @GovTimWalz a comprehensive audit of these centers. This includes attendance records, licenses, complaints, investigations, and inspections.
3. We have launched a dedicated fraud-reporting hotline and email address at childcare.gov/ Whether you are a parent, provider, or member of the general public, we want to hear from you.
We have turned off the money spigot and we are finding the fraud.

The fresh adornments to a “Presidential Walk of Fame” that President Trump installed at the White House in September take a display already intended as a bit of a troll to new heights.

A $60 "supporter ticket" for 1.6% of seats isn't enough. Not when FIFA just set the highest ticket prices in World Cup history.
Thousands spoke up demanding that this be a tournament that New Yorkers can afford.
Here's what we actually need: end dynamic pricing, cap resale prices, and set aside 15% of tickets for local fans at a discount. The beautiful game must be for everyone.

For the first time in my career, I voted against the NDAA.
Each year, I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to forge a bipartisan defense bill that supports our military and protects our national security.
This year’s NDAA, however, authorizes DoD funding that Trump is determined to use to deploy our troops into American cities in an effort that neither protects our national security nor makes our communities safer.
And it is because I love our military so much, and respect our troops so deeply, that I had no choice but to vote against this authorization.
The power to deploy troops domestically must remain exceptional, accountable and rooted in law—not in one man’s judgment about what constitutes disorder.
I will never vote to enable a wannabe tinpot dictator to use the authorities or money Congress allocates to our Armed Forces in an un-American campaign—especially when that campaign abuses our servicemembers and disrespects their sacrifices by ordering them to intimidate Americans in their own communities rather than defend our nation against its adversaries.
