It’s clear—The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act is backed by immense support! We need permitting reform NOW to unleash American energy, lower costs for families, and protect our national security. Let’s get this bill passed!
NEWS: 19 FORMER ECONOMIC AND NATIONAL SECURITY LEADERS ENDORSE THE BIPARTISAN PERMITTING REFORM BILL Today, a group of former Cabinet members and White House principals across seven Democratic and Republican administrations sent a letter calling on Congress to pass BAAJA. Here are the signatories: Janet YELLEN, Michael R. POMPEO, Steven T. MNUCHIN, Leon E. PANETTA, Timothy F. GEITHNER, Henry M. PAULSON, Jr., Robert E. RUBIN, Stephen MIRAN, Jared BERNSTEIN, Tyler GOODSPEED, Jason FURMAN, Glenn HUBBARD, Laura D’Andrea TYSON, Michael J. BOSKIN, Jeffrey ZIENTS, Jake SULLIVAN, Brian DEESE, Larry KUDLOW, Allan B. HUBBARD Key highlights from the letter: 1. “We are not building infrastructure fast enough to remain globally competitive… The median time for a new power plant to move from an interconnection request to commercial operation has more than doubled, from less than two years for projects built between 2000 and 2007 to more than four years for projects built between 2018 and 2024. 2. China has built more high-voltage transmission in the last fifteen years than the U.S. has built in all of its history... In 2024, China accounted for 31.5% of global knowledge- and technology-intensive manufacturing value added, compared with 20.7% for the United States. 3. Federally funded or permitted projects require NEPA review, but private projects often do not, creating a threat of failure precisely where the government is trying to be proactive, strategic, and engaged. 4. A project that spends years awaiting approval must continue carrying development and financing costs while remaining exposed to rising input costs. The IEA reports that prices for utility-scale transformers increased 26% in 2024, while lead times for some transformers have stretched as long as six years. 5. Mining projects also face tremendous uncertainty: a 2026 study by researchers at the Colorado School of Mines found that permitting for modern mining projects takes an average of 5.5 years, rising to 8.9 years for contested projects. The U.S. currently has the second-longest mine development timeline in the world. 6. The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act is the most significant bipartisan legislative effort that Congress has undertaken in decades to tackle these challenges. 7. BAAJA addresses key constraints stifling American industry by requiring interregional transmission planning, strengthening the federal backstop for nationally significant transmission lines, and creating a faster, more predictable process for connecting new generation to the grid. 8. BAAJA also makes permits more durable by imposing tighter timelines for litigation and limiting frivolous lawsuits that can halt projects indefinitely, while preserving community input and judicial review of substantive agency decisions.” The letter was organized by @arnabdatta321 on behalf of @IFP and covered exclusively by the WSJ this morning.

Together with @AEPnews and @Amazon, we’re advancing a nearly 1 GW nuclear project in Indiana, our second project under a broader collaboration with Amazon to bring more than 5 GW of new nuclear capacity to the U.S. grid by 2039. The proposed project would add clean, reliable power to the regional grid, helping meet growing energy demand while creating opportunities for long-term economic development. Today, our delegation is returning home after meeting with several foreign leaders, including President Zelensky in Ukraine. After years of war and atrocities unleashed by Putin, the Ukrainian people remain dedicated to the defense of their homeland. Their cause is one that impacts every free nation, and their ability to innovate rapidly on the battlefield is inspiring. We will carry these insights back to Washington as we continue working toward an enduring, just peace.

The next generation of nuclear energy is taking shape on American factory floors. We recently joined SGL Carbon in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, to celebrate expanded manufacturing capacity and the people making that progress possible. SGL is already producing nuclear-grade graphite components for our first planned Xe-100 deployment with Dow, supported by the @ENERGY's Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program (ARDP). That work is an important step in delivering the specialized components at the core of our reactor.

Permitting reform is key to unlocking our full economic potential. $1.5 trillion in energy investment is being held back by permitting uncertainty. We need clear approval timelines and legal certainty for approved projects. We must pass permitting reform this Congress.

Today, we are launching Muse for Small Business. Small business owners are short on hours, not ideas. Muse for Small Business handles the work that grows and runs your business—including the back-office tasks that consume your day—so entrepreneurs can focus on what they actually started their business to do. A great example is Henry Bennett of Bennett Orchards, a 6th generation farmer in Frankford, Delaware who grows peaches, blueberries, and nectarines. Hear from him how Muse for Small Business is changing his life and growing his business. Small businesses have grown on our platforms for 20 years, and now they have access to tools that will help them manage their day, grow faster, and serve more people. Congrats to @alexandr_wang, @natfriedman, @vishalshahis, and the entire team.

The unsung key to America’s next economic boom? Permitting reform. We have the energy and capital. Now we need to get out of our own way. The Senate has an opportunity this Congress to clear the roadblocks holding back American growth and get our country building again. washingtonexaminer.com/op-ed…

What's the rush on permitting reform? Because we are already behind...and the gap is growing. Our infrastructure has not kept pace with demand. This gap = higher prices, less reliability (i.e. brownouts), and higher emissions.

The future of nuclear in the palm of your hand. A single TRISO-X pebble contains the energy equivalent of six tons of coal. @Amazon goes inside X-energy’s Xe-100, from the TRISO fuel at its core to the intrinsic safety and modular design built for a fundamentally different approach to nuclear. Reliable. Scalable. Ready for what comes next. And it all starts with a pebble. Read more here: sustainability.aboutamazon.c…

I mean, we're just talking about a hard push this week & next to get this strong EPW/ENR package over the finish line & then we can all go back to explaining that free market = good/taxes = bad. All three can be true - but permitting reform needs to happen NOW.
Yes, the diesel ban is bad policy - but can we focus on getting meaningful permitting reform done first?
