A Sweet Early Start: Marathwada mills are crushing, just in time. Drought and record October heat had cane drying fast. A later start would have sent it to fodder and cut sugar output further. 55 mills are already running across Maharashtra. Early crushing was the perfect call by the sugar mills and sugarcane farmers. @HMOIndia @AmitShah @fooddeptgoi @uppalshah @CMOMaharashtra @Dev_Fadnavis #farmers #SugarSeason #SugarCane #sugarcanefarmers #Drought #SugarCrushing

The sugar market is shifting gears. After weeks of concerns over tight stocks, limited quotas and rising festive-season prices, the arrival of new-season sugar is changing the market conversation. With 22–25 mills already crushing in Maharashtra and Karnataka, and more than 100 mills expected to start on October 15, early-season sugar is beginning to reach buyers. In Maharashtra, new sugar is being offered at ₹4,200–4,500 per quintal, compared with around ₹5,000 for M-grade sugar — a price gap that could signal a significant shift in the market. The question now is no longer whether sugar will be available, but whether too much supply could arrive too soon.
