The “HYGLOBAL Dafeng Green Hydrogen” Demonstration Project, developed by SPIC GECL Beijing New Energy Company, recently reached two key milestones: the first 100.48 MW of solar PV capacity was successfully connected to the grid, and the substation serving the green hydrogen facilities was energised on its first attempt. The project is Phase I of the Yancheng Jidian Integrated Green Hydrogen Production, Storage, Transport, Refuelling and Utilisation Demonstration Project. It is Jiangsu Province’s first provincial-level hydrogen energy storage demonstration project, with 200 MW of installed solar PV capacity. Half of this capacity uses an innovative flexible mounting system combining five cables with a double-layer cable net, allowing solar power generation and tidal-flat aquaculture to coexist. Having completed the energisation and start-up procedures, the project team will now advance integrated commissioning, testing and trial production, aiming to begin producing green hydrogen by year-end. The project will establish an integrated hydrogen value chain covering production, storage, transport, refuelling and end use. It will explore green hydrogen development on tidal flats and provide practical experience for developing green hydrogen-based energy in coastal regions.

An abandoned mine in the hills of Zhaxi Village, Heping Town, Changxing County, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, has been transformed. Rows of solar panels follow the land’s contours, surrounded by lush vegetation that has brought the hillsides back to life. Building on the region’s strong foundation for green development, SPIC Zhejiang Company developed the Changxing Xinjiang Mine Rehabilitation and Solar PV Power Project. Since connecting to the grid in 2022, the project has combined mine restoration, clean energy development and efforts to increase rural incomes. During its 87-day construction period, the project rehabilitated abandoned pits, subsidence areas and damaged hillsides. It leveled and backfilled 100 mu (about 6.7 hectares) of pits and depressions, substantially reducing geological hazards. Carefully planned, multilayer planting increased vegetation cover in the restored area to 95%, curbing soil erosion and reviving the barren landscape. Alongside restoration, the project coordinated land use and installed 4,784 PV modules, combining power generation above with ecological restoration below to support long-term mine rehabilitation and green transformation. It also established a benefit-sharing mechanism with the local community. Village–enterprise partnerships, local hiring and resource sharing help strengthen the village’s collective economy and increase residents’ incomes. Today, vegetation flourishes across the mine area as its ecosystem steadily recovers. The project generates an average of 2.1 million kWh annually, saving 840 tonnes of standard coal equivalent and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 570 tonnes each year.
