On September 15, the Chinese Embassy in Namibia hosted a reception to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. More than 300 guests attended the reception, including H.E. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, 4th President of the Republic of Namibia, Hon. Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Phillipus Katamelo, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Emma Kantema, Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Ambassador Emilia Mkusa, Secretary to the Cabinet, Hon. Sophia Shaningwa, Secretary General of the SWAPO Party, Hon. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Governor of Khomas Region, as well as friends from various sectors, heads of diplomatic missions in Namibia, representatives of the Chinese community and Chinese enterprises. In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao Weiping highlighted the remarkable achievements of Chinese modernization and its significant contribution to global economic growth and the improvement of global governance. He spoke highly of the traditional friendship between China and Namibia and the outcomes of President Ndaitwah’s state visit to China. He said that China stands ready to work with Namibia to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and jointly build a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era. Speaking on behalf of the Namibian Government, Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi spoke highly of the long-standing friendship between Namibia and China and welcomed China’s zero-tariff treatment for African countries. She welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in Namibia and said that Namibia stands ready to work with China to further consolidate political mutual trust, expand economic and trade cooperation, and achieve more practical outcomes in the development of bilateral relations.

On September 8, the Chinese Embassy in Namibia hosted the “China-Namibia Culture Fair”, an important event under the “2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges”, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts & Culture (MEIYSAC). Nearly 600 people from various sectors of Namibian society, as well as representatives of the Chinese community in Namibia attended the event. In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao Weiping elaborated on the Global Civilization Initiative and highlighted the important role of cultural exchanges in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of China and Namibia. He stressed that the series of activities held under the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges” represents an important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and African leaders, as well as a vivid practice of the Global Civilization Initiative. He said that China stands ready to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges with Namibia, foster friendship between the two peoples, and promote mutual understanding and people-to-people connectivity. In her written remarks, Minister of MEIYSAC, Hon. Sanet Steenkamp highly commended the event and said that Namibia would further strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation with China, while enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. The event featured cultural performances, intangible cultural heritage displays, interactive games and other activities. Traditional cultures from China and Namibia complemented each other, creating a warm, vibrant and friendly atmosphere.

On September 11, Ambassador Zhao Weiping delivered remarks at Namibia-China (Guangdong Province) Business Forum, which was co-hosted by Namibia Investment Promotion Development Board,the Guangdong economic and trade delegation,and Association of Chinese Enterprises in Namibia. More than 50 representatives from government departments, industry associations, and businesses from the two countries participated in the Forum. Ambassador Zhao said that Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah chose Guangdong as the first stop during her recent state visit to China, where she held in-depth discussions with Guangdong provincial leaders on deepening economic and trade cooperation between Namibia and Guangdong. It is hoped and believed that the visit of the Guangdong economic and trade delegation to Namibia will further advance economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. In her remarks, Ms. Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati, Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, expressed appreciation for Guangdong Province for sending a delegation to Namibia shortly after the Namibian President’s visit to China. She said that Namibia is richly endowed with natural resources, particularly in agriculture and mining, and welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Namibia.

On September 9, Ambassador Zhao Weiping attended the Launch Ceremony of “Jiangxi Culture Goes to International Sister Cities (Namibia)” and the High-Level Dialogue between Chinese and African Mainstream Media and Think Tanks. The event was jointly organized by Jiangxi Province and The New Era newspaper of Namibia. Honorable Sam Nujoma, Governor of Khomas Region, Honorable Wenzel Kavaka, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia, Mr. Lan Wensheng, Head of the Jiangxi Delegation and Second-Class Inspector of Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province, Ms. Zheng Ying, Executive Deputy Director of Jiangxi International Communication Center, attended the events. In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao said that Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s state visit to China in July this year was a complete success. The two heads of state jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era, and reached important consensus on strengthening practical cooperation across a wide range of areas, including people-to-people and cultural exchanges. The visit of the Jiangxi delegation to Namibia would not only promote the development of friendly relations between Jiangxi Province and Namibia, but also help enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Hon. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Governor of Khomas Region, said that Khomas Region is ready to strengthen cooperation with Jiangxi Province across various fields to achieve common development. Hon.
