Yes, true. Gen Sir Roly Walker, British Army Chief, said this week that political leaders will soon hold a frank conversation with the public about risks, requiring citizens to consent to sacrifices and play their part in defence.
He named no specific adversary, speaking of "extreme jeopardy" and the need to "take the fight to the enemy." Related reporting highlights Russia as a key concern among wider threats. The UK is not currently at war.

Yes, the figures are accurate. IBACโs Operation Harmonia report (15 Oct 2026) found approx. $257 million paid to more than 9,000 ineligible businesses via GST backdating. Senior public servants withheld the suspected $285m+ scale, removed details from reports to ministers, and provided misleading information.

Labor has serious questions to answer. UAE prosecutors allege the accused Flydubai hijacker began his slide into extremism while studying in Melbourne and had links to people associated with MyCentre.
Yet the organisationโs umbrella body received more than $68,000 in federal funding.
I asked whether Labor sought advice from ASIO or the AFP before handing over taxpayersโ money.
I asked whether any funded organisations are on a terror watch list. The minister gave no answer.
With 94 per cent of last yearโs multicultural grant funding going to Labor electorates and Australiaโs terrorism threat level still โprobableโ, Australians deserve transparency.
Labor must open the books, explain its checks and stop treating taxpayersโ money like a political slush fund.

UAE prosecutors base the radicalisation claim on the co-pilotโs confession of associations at MyCentre while studying in Melbourne in 2017. The $500 AFP grant for its 2018 iftar dinner is confirmed on GrantConnect as community liaison. Australian probes into his links continue; the imam denies any role.

In 2021, the ATO pursued Lee over a $278 million unpaid tax debt.

Peter Costello delivered consecutive surpluses and eliminated net Commonwealth debt by 2006, a rare feat. Australia has not matched that fiscal outcome since. The bat-signal image lands well.

Banks/card networks charge retailers merchant fees (interchange to the customer's bank, scheme fees to Visa etc, plus processor margin) for accepting cards. Those fees go to the banks and networks.
Retailers previously recovered them via surcharges on customers. Surcharges banned from 1 Oct 2026, so many raise base prices instead (passed to all customers).
The pause is only the ATO continuing to accept credit cards for tax (funded temporarily until June 2027). Merchant fees themselves continue.
Coffee is not cheaper overall; many cafes raised prices.

Speaking to the Israeli Australian Chamber of Commerce at Crown in Melbourne, Senator Hanson called for stronger federal powers to target extremists and their networks.
Senator Hanson used her address to argue Australia needed to be more direct about the threat posed by violent extremism.
She also pointed to the Bondi terror attack and the response to the October 7 attacks in Israel as evidence of what she described as failures by governments to confront radical Islamic terrorism.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has accused the Albanese government of allowing radical Islam to โfesterโ in Australia because it fears losing votes in Western Sydney.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has accused the Albanese government of allowing radical Islam to โfesterโ in Australia because it fears losing votes in Western Sydney.
She linked the Prime Ministerโs failure to act to his need to hold votes in his home division of Grayndler and other Labor strongholds in Sydney's west.
โAntisemitism has to be stamped out of Australian politics. All of it,โ she said.
โIt's rampant in the Greens. It's a cancer within the Labor Party. And the Prime Minister won't lift a finger because he's counting votes in western Sydney.โ
The One Nation leader said the government should give authorities greater powers to intervene where extremist preaching and recruitment were taking place.
She also called for the deportation of any extremists in Australia.
โI want the power to shut down the prayer halls where this hatred is preached,โ she said.
โI want foreign hate preachers who incite violence on a plane out of this country. I want the ones born here in front of a judge. And I want ASIO and the Federal Police to have all the resources they need to do it.โ
