🧵Growing up Wog in Australia My mum migrated to Australia in 1972, I was 7 years old when we landed here from Egypt. At school I was called wog and made to feel like I didn’t belong, like I was stupid because I couldn’t speak English. It didn’t matter I spoke French, Italian, – at Sydney, New South Wales

Replying to @ArtistAffame
The politicians pay themselves so much that they lose touch with the reality of what living costs the average Australian.

THE PRIME MINISTER'S "NUMBERS WORTH REMEMBERING". HERE ARE THE ONES HE LEFT OUT. Anthony Albanese posted a list of numbers this week. Some are real. The $25 cap on PBS medicines is a good thing, and so is six months of paid parental leave. But if we're remembering numbers, let's remember all of them. The 5% deposit scheme wasn't Labor's. The Morrison government started it in January 2020. Labor expanded it last October. Treasury's own documents expected first-year demand to run more than 30% above normal. Since then rates have gone up four times and home values have fallen six months in a row. Families who bought with 5% down are the most exposed. 850,000 Free TAFE "enrolments". Enrolling isn't finishing. By March 2026, 258,000 had completed a course out of 814,000 enrolments. That's fewer than one in three. The 15% pay rise for childcare workers is real, and taxpayers are paying for it. The extension alone costs $3.6 billion. Childcare prices before subsidies still rose 9% in the year to April, more than double inflation. 137 Urgent Care Clinics. The government's own evaluation found "no clear evidence" that emergency department waiting times have improved. And the numbers that didn't make his list: $275 off your power bill, promised by 2025. Electricity rose 22.4% in the year to June. Four rate rises this year. About $470 a month more on the average new mortgage. 1.2 million homes promised. 124,000 behind after two years. 241,000 people moved off the NDIS, most of them children. "We'll keep delivering for every Australian." Australians can count. Cold Hard Facts. Corrected when wrong. No misinformation. What's your thoughts…? Yes, 20% of suicide deaths are people on JobSeeker. Yes, 60% of working age adults who die are on a Centrelink payment. So what did Tanya Plibersek do in Anti-Poverty Week? Give $5 million to charities. Full statement below.

Anyone on X have family of Zorba or Zorbas who oil painted & want their family painting back? I bought this 👇 in an op shop last week b/c I couldn’t believe how little family treasures ‘old art’. I was just killing time & usually have no time to visit op shops. Maybe the norm?

Priorities Savaging the public system to fund private schools #nswpol
What does the inequality crisis look like? This 👇 98% of public schools are underfunded – that’s 2.6 million kids without the resources they need for the education they deserve. Yet the richest private schools are charging massive fees while banking billions of public dollars.

The High Court has recognised what the physics makes clear: you can’t export coal & pretend the climate damage disappears. Whether fossil fuels are burnt in Australia or overseas, the consequences reach the Great Barrier Reef & communities around 🇦🇺. Yet the Albanese govt continues to approve new coal & gas projects. We should stop expanding fossil fuels, use what we have for the transition & make sure Australians get a fair return from existing projects. theguardian.com/environment/…

Instead of the Reserve Bank reducing inflation by increasing the amount of money we have to give to the banks, why not increase the amount of money we have to pay into our own superannuation accounts? #NewApproach #OurMoney #auspol 7news.com.au/video/news/aust…
