NHTSA announced today that they are proposing new rules aimed at removing U.S. federal regulatory barriers for autonomous vehicles without steering wheels or pedals, such as @Tesla's Cybercab.
The proposed changes include:
• Eliminating requirements for manually operated turn signal controls in vehicles without steering wheels or pedals: "NHTSA has concluded that the self-canceling and manually operated control requirements in the current standard are unnecessary for turn signal operating units that are installed on vehicles without manually operated driving controls."
• Allowing autonomous driving systems to control turn signals, hazard lights, and high/low beams without traditional driver-operated switches.
• Removing certain dashboard indicator requirements for turn signals and high beams in vehicles without manual driving controls.
• Allowing optional cyan-colored exterior lights to indicate when a vehicle is operating autonomously, with standardized requirements for their placement, brightness, and operation.
• Eliminating outdated restrictions on vertical headlight arrangements, giving automakers greater design flexibility.
• Allowing modern integrated headlights to be tested at manufacturer-specified voltages rather than requiring 12.8 volts.
NHTSA says the changes are intended to eliminate unnecessary regulatory barriers, reduce costs, and enable innovation without compromising vehicle safety.

Hutto, Texas City Council has directed staff to compare costs for a three-vehicle test of @Tesla Cybertrucks for the Hutto Police Department, after Council member Jerrel Reynolds bought one in April and found its fuel and maintenance costs to be low.
The Las Vegas Police Department has 10 Cybertrucks in its fleet (pictured below), Reynolds said, and he suggested the city reach out to that department for more information.
“I think this is the future," Mayor Mike Snyder said.
Each Police Cybertruck is expected to save the Las Vegas PD $9,500 a year in fuel and maintenance costs alone. It's the #1 most American-made police truck.

The Ferrari CEO praised @Tesla's new Roadster unveil today:
"It certainly shows that in the automotive world there's still a lot to be done. We have to keep dreaming. As a European, thank you for showing us how that, even in an old world, you can still innovate and dare."
He gave the Roadster launch 10 out of 10 for technology and 10 out of 10 for presentation.

Elon is the motherfuckin’ GOAT.
He takes things most people only dream about and makes them fucking real. That’s just the damn truth.
I went to see a car unveil and watched a Roadster drive upside down, launch with thrusters, and do flips and rolls through the air.
How do you watch that and not feel like a kid again?!
Tonight was the best product unveil I’ve ever seen, literally the best unveil of ANY product.
Hands down.
Huge respect to Elon and everyone at Tesla and SpaceX who put in the work to make this happen. You absolutely fucking delivered.
I had my @Grok Bot pull the official stream, find the best moments, and cut this video together by the end of the night.
I had to watch it again to understand how unbelievable today was.
