Q: What is the plan to fund our libraries?
MBJ: This budget sends $30 million to our libraries to stabilize them, without raising property taxes. Our libraries are doubling as places where people can get mental health servies and food. Our libraries are community anchors.

We have a shared responsibility to help Chicagoans find and remain in safe, stable housing.
Through my investments in homelessness support and prevention, we will keep 3,000 neighbors in their homes in spite of Trump's cuts.
My 2027 Fair Share Budget aims to keep a promise I made four years ago to build a more inclusive, accessible shelter system and to reduce homelessness.
Mayor Johnson’s proposed 2027 budget includes allocating nearly $100M to existing housing and homelessness programs at risk of cuts from the federal government and $30M to the Chicago Public Library to stave off layoffs and boost staffing. buff.ly/FzzJd3C

For two years in a row, Chicago has recorded its fewest homicides in 60 years while life expectancy has reached its highest point on record.
Chicago's Fair Share Budget builds on that progress with investments in safer, healthier communities, including:
✅A record 40,000 paid summer youth jobs with a $24M investment
✅$7M for violence intervention, 390 outreach workers and 50 Youth Peacekeepers
✅Provides $30.9M for libraries, avoiding service cuts and a property tax increase
✅Invests $30M more in homelessness prevention, including $15M for services, $13M for the Low-Income Housing Trust Fund and $2M for the Flexible Housing Pool—projected to prevent 3,000 Chicagoans from losing their homes
✅Opens a mental health clinic and expands CARE to seven days a week
✅Permanently establishes the Department of Community Wellness and Safety
✅Preserves $3M for immigration legal services and education
✅Invests $2.5M in free legal education for communities affected by violence and incarceration
✅Provides $7M in raises for 3,000+ early childhood professionals
