Why is Cook taking that penalty? We have far more technically gifted players from 12 yards #afcb 🙄 – at Prague, Czech Republic

Interesting interview with Bournemouth centre back Veljko Milosavljević (2007) for @meridiansportrs. Thought I'd share a few quotes that stood out, particularly those that offer a glimpse into how young players think about their development, careers and the game itself. Starting with the difference in professionalism: 'I always tried to be professional at Zvezda as well. I paid attention to my nutrition and did individual work, but this is on a completely different level. When you come to England and see what's still missing, you become much more aware of all the little details that make the difference. They're literally the things that cost you a millisecond in speed or reaction, and those are the margins that can decide matches.' 'At Bournemouth I realized that everything has to be at the highest possible level if you want to compete here. I'm fortunate to be at a club that genuinely invests in developing young players.'

Imagine telling a Bournemouth fan 20 years ago that they'd beat both AC Milan and Manchester United 3-0 in the same week

Bournemouth’s excellence should not be overlooked in all the inevitable forensic frenzy over Manchester United’s shambles. Deserved 3-0 winners at Old Trafford. 5-0 would not have flattered them. They targeted United's weaknesses - openness in midfield, lack of belief, pace and concentration at the back. Bournemouth superior in every department to United, including off the field in recruitment and general running of a club. Bournemouth's starting XI at Old Trafford cost only £169.5m. How much is the MOTM Rayan worth now? At least double the £24m Bournemouth paid for him. Or James Hill, who cost them £1.6m. Superb today. Or Evanilson, Bournemouth’s goal machine, the king of Brazil, the No 9 who scored one of the goals of the month, and was relentless in his pursuit of the ball and pressing United’s creaking defence. Cost £31m; worth double now. At least. Or the widely-coveted Junior Kroupi returning from injury. Cost Bournemouth £12m; already featured in £80m headlines. Smart recruitment. Good characters as well as good characters. Good performances throughout. Again. Four wins on the spin, four clean sheets in a row, 11 goals scored. Players fitting into Marco Rose’s tweaking of the successful system he inherited; more breaking at pace through the middle as well as wing-play. Board’s appointment of Rose looking shrewd. Well-run team, well-run club 🙌 #AFCB🍒

Somewhere in our rebuilt stadium, #afcb 3 #ACMilan 0 needs to be etched into history. Not just for those of us lucky enough to be there last night, but for every Bournemouth fan, young and old, who deserves to know what a night that was.

No great surprise with Alex Scott taking international football in his stride. Importance of development through England age groups (33 appearances). Won the Under-19 Euros in 2022, won the Under-21s in 2025 where he built a good midfield understanding with Elliot Anderson - now seen for the seniors. Scott been building for this moment and beyond.  Shows the importance of persistence - to overcome injuries and persistence on the club pathway, too. Determination hardened after early frustrations in academies, then developing at Guernsey, seizing his chance at Bristol City, praised by Pep as an “unbelievable player” after a Cup tie, and developed further under Iraola at Bournemouth. Rises to the occasion in big games. As seen against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. Importance of versatility: Scott has played 6, 8, 10 (plus even wing-back at Bristol City).  Also the importance of enlightened coaches and recruiters taking a chance and giving him an opportunity. Guernsey, Bristol City (Brian Tinnion, Nigel Pearson) and Bournemouth (following a knee injury). Importance of the pyramid in player development, too. Another big talent that Thomas Tuchel can call upon. And only 23. #ENG

They lost Solanke. They lost Ouattara. They lost Huijsen. They lost Zabarnyi. They lost Kerkez. They lost Kepa. They lost Semenyo. They lost Senesi. They lost Iraola. They’re without Kroupi Jr. They’ve just beaten Real Sociedad away from home in the UEFA Europa League. AFC Bournemouth 🍒👏
