New research from the Farrow and Bonin labs at NERF, just published in Current Biology, reveals how the intricate dendritic architecture of midbrain neurons helps detect and compute critical motion cues, like approaching predators or fleeing prey. authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…

Around 2012, the lichen 'Xanthoria elegans' (commonly known as the Elegant Sunburst Lichen!) was attached to exterior of the International Space Station for 18 months AND SURVIVED! With no water, no air, extreme temperatures and constant bombardment with radiation!

📢NEW PAPER Our instinct to flee, freeze, or fight when in danger is hardwired in our brains. Still, how we respond doesn’t only depend on what we see. 👀 The @FarrowLab describes how pathway-specific inputs to the superior colliculus support flexible responses to visual threats.
