US Special Operations is adopting Avon Protection’s MITR System, pairing the lightweight MITR-M1 mask with the MITR-PG1 powered goggles as a modular alternative to bulky respirators.
Announced in early October 2026, the system gives operators scalable eye and respiratory protection against lead dust from gunfire, chemical agents, fentanyl, and other hazardous particulates while remaining compatible with combat helmets and night-vision.
Already fielded to some elite units, the move also addresses documented higher cancer risks among SOF personnel from repeated hazardous exposures, delivering practical protection without sacrificing sight picture or communication.
