The FMCSA , mega-brokers and self made vigilantes act like "chameleon carriers" are some brand-new tech scam destroying the freight market and trucking. Total bullshit. It’s the oldest hustle in American trucking. The playbook didn’t start with DAT or cheap online MC numbers. It was invented 65+ years ago under the iron boot of the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). Here’s the truth corporate trucking wants forgotten: 1/ The Original Cartel (1935–1980) Back under the ICC, hauling freight across state lines without a Certificate of Public Convenience & Necessity was a federal crime. The railroads and established fleets owned the rights. An independent owner-operator couldn't legally haul a load of steel across a state line. So the boys did what truckers do: they ran outlaw. They called it "Wildcatting." 2/ The "Baggie Door" Hustle Today, dispatchers email a driver a fresh PDF cab sign when an authority gets red-tagged. In 1968? Drivers carried a trash bag under the bunk stuffed with magnetic placards and sheet metal signs painted with grease pencils. You left Pennsylvania as "Fleet A." Before you crossed the Ohio line, you pulled onto the shoulder, ripped off the magnets, and slapped on "Fleet B" with an ICC number you scribbled off a parked rig at a truck stop. 3/ The Ghost Trip-Lease Racket Big carriers with ICC rights didn't have enough trucks, so they "leased" outlaw owner-operators under the table for a 25% cut. If the load arrived clean, everybody got paid cash. If the truck rolled over or blew a recap through a windshield? The carrier shredded the carbon-copy lease and swore under oath they never heard of the guy. It got so filthy it went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1953 (ATA v. US) just to force carriers to take 30-day responsibility for the iron they leased. 4/ The "Midnight Rebirth" Got caught by ICC road agents? State revoked your tax permits? Nobody parked the iron. You retitled the tractor under your cousin’s name, registered a new DBA down at the county clerk’s office for $15, painted a new name on the door, and were back hammering down the highway the next morning. 5/ The Tech Changed. The Game Didn’t. Then: Magnetic signs, carbon-copy paper, and running 85 mph through scale bypasses at 2:00 AM. Now: A $300 FMCSA filing, virtual mailbox, and an automated load board. Same shell game. Same hustle. The funniest part? The mega-carriers sitting on safety boards preaching zero-tolerance today were built by men who wrote the original rulebook on how to run ghost iron without authority. The system created the chameleon. It always has. #american #trucking # trucker #chameleon #peterbilt #kenworth

Illegal cabotage runs: GREEN LIGHT. Illegal CDL mills:" WE CANT STOP THEM" Canadian fleets opening US shell LLCs with Canadian tags hauling point-to-point: GREEN LIGHT. Chameleon carrier syndicates: "We can't stop them." Broker /Carrier identity theft: "We can't stop them." Autonomous tech waivers: GREEN LIGHT. Russian ELD- "we can't stop them"/green light at roadside/scale houses. American owner-operator with a pristine record goes 1 minute over on their 11-hour clock: • Immediate HOS violation • 10-hour mandatory shutdown • 3x time-weight SMS penalty • Insurance rate spikes • Auto-blacklisted by broker algorithms AMERICA first huh #trucking #americafirst #fmcsa #cvsa #freight #truckdriver

Trucking isn’t a carrier business anymore it’s an extraction scheme. • Tech conglomerates get 5-yr FMCSA waivers and 24-hr scale passes to run 80,000-lb robots. • Foreign dispatch rings treat MC numbers like prepaid burner phones, run them till the wheels fall off, dump the LLC, and roll to the next seasoned authority. • The only sucker left playing by the book is the American owner-operator trying to "build an honest business" with his own name on the door. You're left footing the bill for the entire system: Bogus roadside tickets & stacked CSA points Predatory parts markups to keep equipment pristine $25,000 insurance renewals that spike the moment an algorithm blinks Strict liability for the blue-collar guy. Red carpets for Silicon Valley. Zero consequences for the burner rings. #trucking #cdl #american #fmcsa #supplychain

The most effective trucker strike isn’t blocking a highway. It’s starting your engine, pulling out of the gate, and leaving predatory shippers stranded. The real walkout: • 2 hours in a staging yard with no dock door? Check out, bill a TONU, and roll. • Sitting on a dirt pad for over an hour while they refuse to let you use a basic restroom? That’s not logistics ,that’s human rights abuse. Disengage and leave. • Your 14-hour clock isn't their free warehouse space, and your dignity isn't a line item on their balance sheet. When drivers stop tolerating disrespect, demand legal HOS compliance, and pull equipment the second free time expires, the supply chain feels it immediately. Know your worth, document the check-in times, and walk out on every facility that treats a human being like an unpaid parking cone. That’s how you reset the industry. #trucking #driversunited #peterbilt #freightliner #volvo #mack #kenworth #truckerstrike #americantrucker

The pendulum in trucking tech and carrier vetting has swung to an extreme. History says the swing back is inevitable.

Everyone talks about the 2022–2025 freight recession as if it was only caused by overcapacity after the 2021 boom. I think the industry missed a deeper structural change. Yes, overcapacity was real. But this downcycle became exceptionally brutal because brokerages gained unprecedented pricing power through information asymmetry. Here’s what changed: Years ago, brokers had imperfect visibility into truck capacity. Uncertainty forced them to overpay at times just to secure trucks. Now brokerages operate with real-time market intelligence through carrier onboarding platforms, lane analytics, ELD-connected ecosystems, fraud prevention infrastructure, historical acceptance data, and live capacity monitoring. The carrier rep on the phone is no longer “the broker.” Behind him is an internal pricing system constantly asking: How many trucks are nearby? How desperate is capacity? What is the minimum buy rate right now? How long can we hold the rate before urgency forces us higher? This changed spot trucking into a much more efficient auction market — but efficiency shifted heavily toward brokers. I believe the 2022–2025 downturn wasn’t just deep because there were too many trucks. It was deeper because technology gave brokerages better pricing predictability than carriers had ever faced before. In older cycles, brokers overpaid due to uncertainty. In modern cycles, better information allowed them to suppress rates much longer and much harder. The result: The harshest owner-operator downcycle we’ve seen in years.@FreightAlley

Analyzing 45 years of FMCSA data: How has truck safety evolved as the industry expanded? Since 1975, the number of registered large trucks and buses in the U.S. has grown by 148%, reaching a record 14.5 million vehicles by 2020. #Trucking #DataAnalysis #RoadSafety

The graph illustrates two clear, diverging trends: The Blue Line (Industry Growth): Shows the steady rise in registered large trucks and buses from 5.8 million to over 14.4 million vehicles. The Red Line (Safety Efficiency)
64
Despite this massive fleet growth, safety efficiency has significantly improved. The fatal crash rate per 100,000 registered vehicles has dropped by 54% since 1975. The data indicates that modern roads are statistically safer per vehicle than in the 1970s and 80s.

THE AMERICAN TRUCKING INDUSTRY IS BEING DESTROYED FMCSA & USDOT know the problem with non-domiciled CDLs. They even wrote an interim rule. But it’s toothless. states aren’t following it. Result? Illegals are still getting CDLs and driving 80,000 lb trucks .

Fraud is out of control: Chameleon carriers – shut down for violations, then reopen next week under a new DOT number with the same owner & address. FMCSA rubber-stamps it. Brokers keep booking them because they haul cheap. Safety & accountability = gone.

cabotage rule voilations – Canadian & Mexican carriers are abusing loopholes, running illegal U.S. domestic loads. With currency exchange advantage, they undercut American truckers $400–$500 a load. ⚠️ Rates collapse. ⚠️ U.S. truckers bleed out. ⚠️ Foreign carriers take over.

Replying to @neiltyson
@neiltyson If the universe is an organism, are the laws of physics its DNA? Like DNA, they may ‘mutate’ or at least express differently at different scales — Newton locally, relativity at high speeds, quantum at small scales, expansion beyond light.

Black holes = immune/recycling, dark matter = skeleton, EM spectrum = signals, Big Bang = reproduction. And while 13.8 billion years feels vast to us, on a cosmic ‘stellar-era’ lifetime of ~100 trillion years that’s just ~12 seconds on a 24-hour clock.

Not seeing mutations in 12 seconds doesn’t prove they never happen — especially if they occur at reproduction events (Big Bang/phase transitions) rather than mid-life. Dr. Tyson — useful analogy, or just poetry
