#OTD in 1992, the Mars Observer mission launched aboard a Titan III rocket. The mission was designated for exploration of the Martian environment, but the spacecraft was lost in the vicinity of Mars in 1993.

It needs the right trajectory. 🧵
Space itself doesn't have a temperature, but objects within it experience extreme heat and cold.
Without an atmosphere to regulate heat, satellites rely on thermal management systems to protect sensitive equipment as they orbit between intense sunlight and freezing shadows.

The CAF Gulf Coast Wing brought AC-47 Spooky 86 to the Spooky Brotherhood Reunion at Joint Base San Antonio, giving AC-47 veterans and their families a chance to see the restored aircraft.
One veteran summed it up best: “I never saw one look this good before.”

On this day in 1942, the first XB-29 took off at Boeing Field in Seattle. The XB-29 was the prototype for the B-29 Superfortress, a critical aircraft in World War II and the first bomber to house its crew in pressurized compartments.

Heavy lift vessel Forte & Ship 40 making steady 14-14.3 knots. Brownsville Texas in ~16 days. S40 floated for 33 days after splashdown. Then 7,219 nm after S40 was loaded onto Forte’s deck at Christmas Island on Aug 28. Only 5,648 nm to go! 🏁

70 years ago today, the Jupiter-C rocket was fired for the first time. The rocket would later make history when it launched the United States's first artificial satellite, Explorer 1, in 1958.

RS AIS is showing an arrival time of 17:00 local (EDT), currently going 6.5kts so its quite likely RS will in fact come in much closer to 17:00, though I wouldnt hold my breath for AIS' ETA.
RocketShip is abeam Melbourne, FL ~an hour or so till she strolls into port, I sadly wont be there to watch her come in.
