Romanian presidential election: It's not all about TikTok. We've uncovered over 4k political ads on Meta's platforms. They were run from 25 facebook pages tied to a network of websites pushing unverified claims. The coordinated campaign is designed to push far-right candidates.

The technique used is not new: it is exactly the same as what we described in our previous report. All ads lead to websites impersonating famous media brands and trying to get users to share personal information.

Limiting our scope to just 10 Facebook pages hosting such ads we measured that at least 3 million Facebook users in 12 European countries were reached in the last 3 weeks.

Yesterday, 29 April, in less than two hours of research on Facebook, we collected hundreds of fraudulent ads using the name and image of 69 celebrities, such as King Felipe of Spain @CasaReal, actor @antoniobanderas or @HugoTravers.
