I’m excited to share the front cover of my next book “Fortress Britain 1940” which looks at the unsung and secret layers of Britain’s defence which for so long have been hidden under a narrative of Spitfires & Dad’s Army! Available for pre-order here: amzn.eu/d/19ZFD8u

It’s Sunday. What better time to do some ‘research’ on subjects for book four…?? Who can name the film (I’m guessing most will be able to based on my followers)! #history #historian #ww2 #books #namethefilm @WeHaveWaysPod @almurray @James1940

It’s like a @militaryhistori size @CommandoComic - my weekend reading sorted! @WeHaveWaysPod @almurray @James1940

This is what I live for! A new lead and a hidden wireless set in a secret compartment above the stairs! Add to this mentions from the previous owner of the house of an association with a secret wartime resistance group, the game is afoot! @WeHaveWaysPod @almurray

What an amazing event to finish off the @BudleighLitFest - @GilesMilton1 brilliantly telling the story of one man’s attempt to claim the Artic for the British Empire. A real treat to chair him and to read the absolute cracker of a book!

It's literally called Fortress Britain mate - not sure why you expect it not to focus on British locations, history and politics... Also I'm not in control of Kindle tech! The joys of reviews!

A tour de force from @James1940 this morning at the @BudleighLitFest on his book ‘The Visionaries’. One thing was clear - let’s use FDR & Truman as examples on how to deal with global crisis & not so much the current incumbent…! Thanks so much Jim! @WeHaveWaysPod @almurray

So gutted to have missed Sat and Sun of @WeHaveWaysPod fest because of illness! What an amazing event it is though worth the trip just for the Friday! Can’t wait for next year with the new book! Congrats @James1940 @almurray @tonypastor70 & the @GoalhangerHQ team!

Well done to Tom, @WeHaveWaysPod youngest ever speaker at 12 years old! A brilliant talk on the forgotten armies of the Second World War. Look out for him in the future!

Two Aux Units badges sold recently. Both quite badly damaged but still going for plenty of money. Shows that the profile of the Aux Units continues to rise - which has to be a good thing.

Who'd have thought that a pod focusing on the SWW could reach 1,000 eps, create a global community, put on the best annual WW2 fest & most importantly give those with a passion for the subject the opp to be published historians! Congrats @WeHaveWaysPod @almurray @James1940

Can’t believe it’s 4 years ago today that Britain’s Secret Defences came out! My life since has changed immeasurably for the better! Thanks to everyone who has supported me @almurray @James1940 @militaryhistori @HistoryHit the @WeHaveWaysPod IC & of course my amazing family!

Will Ward, the expert on Auxiliary Units and SAS has written a brilliant book on Major Peter Weaver, Dorset IO of Auxiliary Units and later in 1 SAS, one of the few to escape from operation Bulbasket. It'll be an awesome read - have a look here bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c98r…

A lush little book picked up for a quid in the same shop I bought a cheese and beans jacket potato. Sometimes you never know do you?! I don’t know enough about this theatre of war despite the brilliant efforts of @forgottenwarpod @robert_lyman @HistoryBowsh

#OTD 86-years ago, War Minister Anthony Eden delivered his appeal to the country. The avg age of the LDV/Home Guard was mid-30's - not the old men portrayed in Dad's Army, but an effective anti-invasion force, with previous military experience from the FWW just 22 years before.

In today's @Daily_Express covering the doc I made with Dan Snow & @HistoryHit it features the brilliant Ken Welch. The bunker he & his patrol operated in during the war has been found and we managed to get him there for the first time in 80 yrs! Thanks as always to @MattNixson

Hear all about it! Not subscribed to @HistoryHit or don't want to see my face? Then have a listen instead! As part of the documentary we pulled together we also did a podcast version! Have a listen now to the most amazing (and frankly emotional) bunker hunt with Dan Snow.
