East Croydon seems to be getting new bins… Let’s hope they go where they are needed. We shall see!

Good idea
Very good piece here on the insane demands on MPs from constituency casework, which has been rising almost exponentially since Covid It's clear we need to completely rethink how our democracy works, and I think this is a good opportunity. We have a system where councillors have very few powers, and MPs' actual role in debating and developing policy has been neutered. We should look at devolving constituency casework largely to councillors, who should be properly-paid full-time jobs. This would have the added benefit of possibly improving the quality of local government politicians. Meanwhile, a future government that finally removes quangos and restores democratic and judicial roles to parliament can focus on letting MPs be MPs, rather than glorified social workers. There's a big problem here, but also a big opportunity to restore faith in politics and MPs. politicshome.com/news/articl…

Full bag from one side of this road. People are dumping stuff from their cars, unfortunately.

Great to discuss apprenticeships in a House of Lords reception this afternoon. No litter in here, that’s for sure!

Productive morning. Two bags (and half a cone!) collected opposite Croydon’s old Airport. I definitely underestimated how long this would take! I’ll have to come back to finish the job.

Two bags collected near a retail park today. The scale of litter in this area is frankly unbelievable.

Croydon’s town centre gets new bins. The old ones looked terrible. A small, inexpensive change that makes a big difference to the High Street.

Young people feel ignored. Well done to LFG for highlighting this crisis.
15.2% of 18-24 year olds are UNEMPLOYED and ACTIVELY seeking work in England. In their attempts to court the votes of older generations, our politicians have neglected our young people. See how many are unemployed in YOUR region: dashboards.lookingforgrowth.…
