The amount of bureaucracy in a system is inversely proportional to the amount trust. Agile is all about minimizing the former and maximizing the latter.

New pluggable agent allows the TestCentric Gui to run .NET 8.0 tests. TestCentric .NET 8.0 Pluggable Agent charliepoole.org/technical/n… via @CharliePoole

BTW, this isn't the first pluggable agent. A .NET Framework 2.0 agent has been released for a while and a .NET Core 2.1 agent is in my dev channel. Those, of course, are for folks who need to test under those legacy platforms.

Eventually, all agents will be pluggable, with a standard set included with the GUI and varying from time to time as platforms become available - or obsolete.

Phrases I don't like: Thought leader → I have zero interest in leading thoughts. Ppl should think for themselves. Technical expert → The list of things I don't know is infinite. Even if I know a bit more on some topic than you, I'm sure you know more on another topic than me

Mastodon might not be perfect, but I just experienced a billionaire come and hijack our communities and shoving his shit ideas down our throats. The people and the connections I made here are precious to me, and I hope we can recreate them in a platform immune to rich assholes

If this site is going down I’m gonna say it. I like grades. Yeah, even in elementary school. I’m a competitive jerk and that stuff motivated me. I wouldn’t have been half as good at school as I was without grades and deadlines and the threat of being held back.

I like "nudge"! In early days, we often said "force", which is both false and non-agile.

Great (re)introduction to #TDD for a new generation.
#TDD changed my life, it's always a pleasure for me to talk about it. I hope this little tribute may help some new leverage to start exploring this and other wonderful practices of eXtreme Programming #XP TY @semaphoreci for the opportunity! 🙌

This thread...
Somebody quoted part of this thread over on LinkedIn, and the responses were interesting. Many fell into the Larman’s Law territory of discounting the approach entirely as fantasy. "This is impossible to do in The Enterprise." Yes. It is. . 1/7
Names do matter...
Though I love mobbing, I’ve never been happy with the words "driver" and "navigator" because, in a car, the driver is doing the work and the navigators are making unhelpful suggestions 😄. How about a mob made up of authors (or creators, or devisers or do-ers) and a secretary?
If you don't test, someone else will. And their cost will be higher. Much higher. #development #testing

If you’re a company moaning about the #Log4J exploit, may I point out that the code was FREE, and that if you worry about things like security, perhaps you should contribute to the project? That’s the way that OS works. Parasites using w/o contributing have no right to complain.

I call this Background Work. It scratches the curious engineer itch. It may never be useful. When it is, though, it's *really* useful.
Some programming guidance I give is to understand at least one layer of abstraction above & below the layer you're working at. Ex: consider UX + VMs when writing JS. A few years ago Expo Android needed code that can't be expressed w/Java → ended up writing JVM bytecode directly.

Been away from social media and software development for a bit, but I'm happy to have just released the second alpha of the TestCentric GUI. And here's a blog post about it: charliepoole.org/technical/m…
