What I don't have a sense of is, in the states that have already signaled they will opt in, are advocates mobilizing to make it work for the most disadvantaged public school students, even/especially those advocates who don't like the program?

Over the next decade or two (by time children born today graduate high school), the technologies coming behind AI will test basic ideas about what it means to be human, how to create a just and fair society, and what humans need to do to survive and thrive

Brain implants that now help paralyzed patients move a cursor could someday improve memory or attention in healthy people. Gene editing, prosthetics and wearable sensors are already blurring the line between treating a compromised body and upgrading a healthy one. Further out, but taken seriously in well-funded labs that have already mapped an entire fruit fly brain and set a digital version walking, is the idea of copying a human mind into a machine.
I don’t want to freak anybody out, but today’s AI is only the latest wave in a flood of new technologies that will change education and human kind in ways we can scarcely imagine.

In an @NationalParents survey of more than 1,500 parents of K-12 public school students, 85% support K-12 public schools teaching students about AI safety; 77% support K-12 public schools teaching students ways to use AI tools effectively.

A kid who has never learned to swim is the most likely to drown. The same goes for the kids for whom we try to ban AI: they'll use it anyway, in secret and badly.
