Since 2016, Chaperone International has invested infrastructure, personnel, equipment to transform Kanungu HC IV, Kataate, Uganda.

2026, we are building a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
To a greater extent, our work at Chaperone International and indeed at Kanungu HC IV, Kataate aims at addressing the health needs and empowerment of rural women and girls.

This September, the doors to the Chaperone International Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Kanungu Health Centre IV - Kataate Hospital Project opened.

The new 25kW solar power has broken the most pressing barrier to delivering life-saving newborn care. We now guarantee 24/7, clean, and
sustainable energy to power incubators, warmers, CPAP, and oxygen. This unit will
give hundreds of newborns the fighting chance they deserve.
Fatal, costly referrals⚠️
Currently, critical babies are referred to distant hospitals where they can find care.
For a premature baby suffering
from respiratory distress or severe hypothermia, these transport times are almost always fatal. 40% die during transfer.
Chaperone International,with funding from our partners in Germany has completed the first and most critical step in establishing a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kanungu HC IV, Kataate: a 25 kW Hybrid Solar Power System. Our staff have completed a 5 day Neonatal Care training hosted by @BwindiHospital aimed at strengthening their knowledge and skills in essential neonatal care, newborn resuscitation, and management of common neonatal conditions.
