I've been reading about treating hexcrawls as dungeoncrawls and while I think procedure unification has the benefit of making the game more approachable for new GMs, it's important to consider why we have those procedures in the first place. (1/3)
I see differences as friction/texture. They're ways to restrict the more freeform nature of the game, but in doing so, make it believable.
Complete unification implies complete abstraction, and when everything is abstract, it's harder to see the world you're painting. (2/3)
