Hull City:
Brilliant performance to make the play-off final. Their xG difference has been negative almost all season, showing the limitations of using 1/2 metrics to evaluate performance.
Hull have benefitted from a suitable style of play and quality in forwards areas.
1/12
Progressive Passes / Pass % :
Alex Robertson has caught the eye in midfield for Cardiff City.
He's comfortable on the ball, passes very well and dictates the tempo of the game. So far, he's 2nd in progressive passes, offers security and he's performed well in creative metrics.
Open Play Chances Created / xA :
It's the same story for Patrick Roberts so far this season as last, he is a leader in Chances Created and xA per 90.
Cardiff have had a strong start in creating chances with Willock, Tanner and Moylan all in the 90th percentile for xA.
Goals / xG:
The Championship has a rich crop of strikers at present led by Will Lankshear and Cyle Larin.
Lankshear and Boro are a great match, he leads xG and is top goalscorer.
Larin mixes pace and physicality with exceptional technique and is a leader in both xG and Goals.
Andre Brooks:
Brooks' transfer to Norwich may have gone under the radar but he could be a really valuable signing after a promising season for Sheffield United.
Below you can see Brooks creates his chances in areas which Norwich were slightly weaker in last season.
Concluding, Brooks is a clever player with guile and the ability to beat players. He is creative and produces good volumes of both creating and receiving chances.
This will benefit Norwich, as he does his work in area's they weren't especially strong in last season.
Will Lankshear looks like a great signing for Middlesbrough.
He provides a focal point, excellent movement in and around the box and he can finish.
Lankshear was one of the most relied upon players last season, providing over 30% of Oxford's Goals and xG (90s normalised).
This is the type of player Middlesbrough needed last season, having had so many games where they dominated chances but failed to take them.
It's worth noting that although this improves the team from last year, there is still a gaping Hayden Hackney sized hole to fill.
2nd-Half Hydration Response:
England's performance after the 2nd hydration break was the worst of the tournament for a team leading 1-0.
Tuchel's decisions fed into the narrative that we would collapse. They hurt belief, signalled negative intentions and lacked proactivity.
We retreated before the break but still at 1-0, we had the opportunity to reorganise and change the momentum of the game with proactive subs. This was all quite obvious in real-time.
Instead, we played into their hands more so and watched the same old story.
