Do you believe that taking an extremely long time to do something makes it safer.. ? like 5 years of development is safer than 2 years? Were NASA’s decisions to pivot in weeks for Gemini VI/VII or months for Apollo 8 unsafe, or were they historic examples of competence that kept America in the space race? Much of the Reddit noise seems to come from people looking for reasons to take out their affinity for specific hardware, political differences, or personality conflicts on America’s lunar program. It has been long enough. We have been working for decades on America’s return to the Moon. We finally have the space policy, political alignment, resources, industry, and talent to accomplish this goal safely after a very long wait. We have two landers, and we will preserve the option to use either for as long as possible while turning every knob available to improve the probability of success. That means different vehicle configurations will remain on the table for Artemis IV until they are no longer viable. And for the most committed EUS advocates, it was never going to be an option within the timelines required. The OIG report already covered that. Even getting core stage production to an annual rate is a challenge. The decision to consider Centaur, stretched Centaur, and other upper-stage options over EUS was made by nonpolitical NASA leadership assessing cost, technical work ahead within timelines. I know this is disappointing to some hardware fans, but the idea that it is all a cover for lander availability does not hold up. NASA would have wanted an Artemis III test before an Artemis IV landing regardless, and an extended-mission Centaur would offer far more value for a lunar base and other applications than EUS. That is the reality. We are an energized and dynamic NASA and we are not just waiting around for others to deliver. It is NASA’s responsibility to drive the outcomes people have been waiting for, and that is exactly what we intend to do. We are targeting October 23 for the next Artemis update, though that date is not final as folks return from IAC.

While being attached to an F-18 Hornet for deployment in an air mission above Afghanistan, a U.S. Navy bomb is defaced by an unidentified sailor with the words “HIGH JACK THIS FAGS.” A photograph of the bomb sparks outrage from the American gay community, and the press is calling the ordinance the “fag bomb.”

Arizona Inmate Killed Three Sex Offenders — Now Prosecutors Want Him Put to Death TUCSON, Ariz. — An Arizona inmate already serving 16 life sentences is facing the death penalty after authorities say he killed three fellow prisoners in a single morning — and later openly described what he had done. Ricky Wassenaar, 63, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the April 4, 2025 deaths of Saul Alvarez, Thorne Harnage and Donald Lashley at the Cimarron Unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson. He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors announced in May that they intend to seek the death penalty. According to the Arizona Department of Corrections, staff responded shortly after 7:15 a.m. to violence near the prison dining area. Harnage and Lashley were found critically injured there, while Alvarez was later discovered injured inside his cell. All three died. The account of what happened came later from Wassenaar himself. Wassenaar told the Arizona Mirror that Alvarez had been placed in his cell and that he killed him before heading toward the prison dining area. He said he carried a large rock inside a mesh laundry bag and used it to attack other prisoners as they gathered for breakfast. Harnage was serving a sentence for sexual conduct with a minor, while Lashley had been convicted of sexual conduct with a minor and molestation of a child. Alvarez was serving time for first-degree murder, sexual assault and kidnapping. His victim was a 15-year-old girl. Wassenaar made little attempt to distance himself from the killings in subsequent interviews. Speaking to the Arizona Mirror, he said he had deliberately targeted child sex offenders and remarked: “The taxpayers no longer have to pay for them.” He also said his regret was that he had not killed more prisoners.

Eventually things escalated and he died, but this man should be remembered as a pioneer who proved that even tigers can be at least momentarily baffled by arrogant finger-wagging.

My favorite thing about Trump 2.0. The random people who just pop in frame for no reason. Iron Mike Tyson leaning in to catch a foreign policy question is just peak Trump.

A gorgeous brunette was in love with one of my buddies in college. He blew her off one time and I asked, “dude, she’s a smokeshow and she’s into you. What’s the deal?” He said, “She has fat girl arms.” Anyway, I think he and his husband live in Vermont now.
Those arms will hunt her for eternity

Incredible video of the booster catch What’s crazy is the account that posted this has nothing to do with spaceflight. It’s a girl who happened to be in the right place at the right time and was inspired. Starship is an inspiration to people who otherwise don’t know about space

No, it’s not ‘Islamophobic’ to feel uncomfortable on a plane with people dressed like this. That’s just your survival instinct kicking in.

The U.S. now has an “on orbit” space weapon to protect American forces, the Air Force secretary announced, in a not-so-subtle warning to China and Russia. It marked the first time the U.S. has acknowledged its own offensive capability in space. wapo.st/4iXuG44
