here's why they stopped
in H1 2025, early-stage investments made up 39% of web3 VC funding
and you know the fun bit? there were 121 metaverse/gaming/consumer web3 deals
in the first half of 2026 there were fewer deals, and early-stage was only 31%
crucially, that same bucket that give out the sponsored content deals (gaming, metaverse, direct consumer and DAOs etc) dropped to just 76 deals

big-ticket deals for exchanges/trading increased. most of them don't want sponsored content
pivot to content on finance / macro / AI, get so big it doesn't matter, or get a job

last year I spoke to the marketing teams of 3 household-name ecosystems
- one now has an FDV of $1.2M (I'm not joking) and $32 per day in revenue
- one is now a 'consumer product studio' not a blockchain
- while one has maintained an FDV over $3B
the first had a cult-like community that they disrespected
the second hacked attention brilliantly - but no one believed in the vision
the third has had one, consistent, message - 'the trust layer of the digital economy' - and a community that has held firm for years
they've got huge amounts of attention from institutions, and major sponsorships (McLaren)
they're called Hedera.
you can get all the attention in the world but if you can't maintain the right kind of attention, AND make the right people believe in you
