An estimated 50,000–54,000 combat-injured veterans, many of whom served in Iraq and Afghanistan, were medically retired before reaching 20 years of service. These men and women receive VA disability payments but are still blocked from receiving their full military retirement pay. This unfair offset continues to punish exactly the veterans your coverage has often defended. The Major Richard Star Act (H.R. 2102) would eliminate this inequity without delay. Though it enjoys broad bipartisan backing, the legislation is currently stalled. An active discharge petition (H.Res. 1247, Petition #22) needs 218 signatures to bring the bill to the House floor for a vote. This represents the most effective path forward right now. We strongly encourage you to voice your public support for the Major Richard Star Act and this discharge petition on your show and across your platforms.
