Back in 2010 our teams created simple Schedule Boards for workcells with visual color codes to denote status like running as planned, behind schedule, problem/issue - while maintaining updates on parts count, cycle times, notes etc. 🔴🟡🟢
A stranger with ZERO knowledge of CNC could walk around and tell you how things are going and what and who needs help (and why).
That's the test.
Visual. Instant. Easy to understand.
Every morning during a "walkaround" each team lead would review status and discuss next steps or help needed, and we assigned tasks and resources right then and there - no meetings.
Guess what... while the data collection and status is important.
It's not the main point.
ENGAGEMENT and OWNERSHIP was.
We had an ERP system.
We had scheduling software with algorithms.
We had real time machine data collection
We had computers on shop floor and big monitors (although not good interactive digital dashboards at time)
But there is something powerful when you give tools, decision making responsibilities, resources and real support to shop floor employees.
They get empowered.
The act of PHYSICALLY arranging magnets representing work orders to optimize setups and meet deadlines... and WRITING (or using touch screen monitor etc) to PERSONALLY update status, communicate needs...
Transforms them from an employee being told what to do
To a part OWNER who cares and takes action.
Nowadays, technology is waaay better
Lots of great manufacturing oriented software systems
More options on market, robust, more scalable, easier to integrate across systems, and more affordable too.
But how do you DEPLOY that tech?
Are employees involved?
Do they PHYSICALLY interact with it?
Are they responsible for input and using it to make decisions?
Or does it do all that for them and just show them what to do?
If the latter, then you've only given your employees a digital newspaper. 📰🗞️

Titanium is the ninth-most abundant element in Earth’s crust (0.63% by mass).
Yet globally, we produce only 370,000 tons of titanium sponge annually. By comparison, we produce nearly 2 billion tons of steel.
Figuring out how to mass-produce titanium economically will kickstart a new Industrial Revolution.

She committed crimes and a federal judge authorized the seizure. It started in the Biden administration. Pound sound, terrorist.
This morning, the federal government turned the full force of the Department of Homeland Security against a sitting member of Congress for the offense of disagreeing with the White House.
The path to citizenship should not be weaponized against anyone, including Rep. Ilhan Omar, a naturalized American who swore an oath to this country — the same one that I took.
The promise of citizenship should not be contingent on someone agreeing with the federal government.

Hey @thehill, it is crazy you would allow people who publicly advocate for my assasination to write this sort of piece for you.
Could you please add some sort of disclaimer, like "Editors Note: The think tank that wrote this thinks Palmer should be killed in the streets."

Reminder for (most) founders:
1) you don’t need VC money
2) you need a company, customers, and revenue, which you use to:
3) build a team
4) AFTER you’ve built a company you can raise capital on your terms.
