This week, representatives from each department across the @townofnewmarket came together to collaborate and test our Emergency Management process. Every year, a mock-scenario is created and revealed the day of the exercise. Everyone works together to ensure all our residents are looked after and our community is able to move through and recover from a large-scale event. This year's exercise was called "Clearwater" - where we dealt with a hazardous gas (chlorine) at the Magna Community Centre. Well done team!

Did you visit our Open House last Saturday? 🚒🔥 We try our best to make each year more fun than the last - because the more reasons we can give you to come through our doors, the more opportunities we have to connect with our community and share fire safety information that can help keep your family safe. The hose targets, train rides, inflatable slide, games, prizes, live demos and unique community partners all have something in common: they bring our residents together with their fire department. We also love the chance to show our residents a sample of how your local firefighters protect the community beyond just fire-related calls. Once you’re here, we have the chance to talk about smoke and CO alarms, safe battery recycling with the Ghost Busters, pet safety with Golden Rescue, home escape planning, emergency preparedness, what to do when a fire happens - and most importantly - how to prevent a fire in the first place. Did Ghost Busters out front bring you in this year? Was it the chance to tour an ambulance, police car or firetruck? Was it Golden Rescue with their dogs out front educating on pet safety? The arts and crafts station for the kids? Sometimes the best way to get people talking about fire safety is to give them a reason to show up. We’ll bring the fun. You bring the family. @Town_of_Aurora @TownofNewmarket @GoldenRescue @Call2Recycle

Today we officially named Station 4-3 in memory of the late Deputy Fire Chief Stewart G. Patrick. Stewart devoted nearly 50 years to serving Aurora! With three generations of the Patrick family having served from this station, his name will be a lasting reminder of their remarkable commitment to the Aurora Fire Department and Central York Fire Services. Congratulations to the entire Patrick Family on this well deserved recognition.

🚨 A safer community starts at home. Kidde Canada has donated nearly $100,000 worth of combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to Central York Fire Services to help keep homes across the @TownofNewmarket and the @Town_of_Aurora safe. These life-saving devices will go directly into our community through the annual Stay Fire Smart program which runs each summer. Together we want to remind everyone to take a moment to test your alarms and make sure they’re working properly. Join people across the province in pressing the “test” button on September 28 for Test Your Smoke Alarm Day! Learn more: bit.ly/4rqfcro

Who are we? 🚒 This time of year we get a lot of calls requesting school visits, which we love to do! However, many schools from across York Region and Toronto confuse us for their local department. Here is a great reference map from the York Region (The Regional Municipality of York) website that identifies each municipal fire service's jurisdiction/boundaries and fire station locations. We are are the fire service that proudly protects the @TownofNewmarket and @Town_of_Aurora If you are looking to book an educational visit, information session, partnership, or station tour in our area: cyfs.ca/book-a-visit-1 If your location is in another municipality, contact your local Town Office to be directed to the Fire Prevention Division for your area. They would love to hear from you!

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 - 25 YEARS LATER Today, emergency service personnel across the world pause in reflection and remembrance. 25 years later, we continue to remember those whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001. Across all five of our fire stations in Newmarket and Aurora, our members came together for a moment of silence to honour the lives lost and to remember the first responders who answered the call that morning - running toward danger while others were trying to escape. We remember the 343 firefighters of the FDNY, 23 NYPD Officers, 37 Port Authority Police Officers, and EMTs/Paramedics who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks, in addition to the thousands of civilians whose lives were lost that day. We also remember the countless first responders from across the U.S., Canada, and around the world who travelled to Ground Zero in the days and weeks that followed to assist with rescue and recovery. Among them were members of our own fire service who answered that call to serve in the aftermath of this tragedy. 25 years later, their legacy continues to remind us of the courage, compassion, and selflessness that unite fire and emergency services - across borders and around the world. @TownofNewmarket @Town_of_Aurora

It's that time of year again! Our ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE is NEXT WEEKEND 🎉 Haven't been before? Check out some highlights of what to expect below: Our annual Open House is an opportunity for the community to get to know their local fire department and learn more about simple but important actions everyone can take to prevent fires at home. Meet your local firefighters, stop by the hot dog cart, arts and crafts, prizes, games, "Sparky the Fire Dog", interactive fire safety activities and much more! It's an educational event the kids will love! 🚒 Check out TWO live training demos - 11am - Rope Rescue: watch firefighters repel off the roof and demonstrate a rescue. 1pm - Auto Extraction: watch firefighters cut open a car and demonstrate a rescue in the event of a car accident. 👩‍🚒 Kids can "earn their helmet" by grabbing a "Firefighter Training Card" at the event entrance and visiting each of the FOUR marked tables for their hole-punch. Your Junior Firefighters must visit our Smoke and CO alarm table, Smoke Crawl, Trivia Spinning Wheel, and Emergency Preparedness activities to learn about each topic. When they "complete their training" they can hand in their Training card with each of the FOUR topics completed to receive a kid's fire helmet. 🚰 **Attendees are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle** to stay hydrated and bring a non-perishable food donation to support the Newmarket Food Pantry. ⚾️ CYFS is offering a Dunk Tank for Good! Purchase 3 balls for $5 with all proceeds donated to the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation which aims to prevent carbon monoxide tragedies. Let us know if you're coming by responding to our Facebook Event and sharing this with friends and family - we can't wait to meet you! Check out our event recap videos from previous years on our YouTube page or in the link in our bio 👆 @TownofNewmarket @Town_of_Aurora
