Saint Ignatius, bishop and martyr: a disciple of Saint John the Apostle, he was the second after Saint Peter to govern the Church of Antioch. He was condemned to the beasts in the reign of the Emperor Trajan and was taken to Rome where he was crowned with a glorious martyrdom. On the journey, while suffering the ferocity of the guards who were like leopards, he wrote seven letters to different Churches, in which he entreated the brethren to serve God in unity with the bishops, and not to impede his immolation as a victim for Christ. Saint Ignatius of Antioch, bishop and martyr, pray for us!

Saint Hedwig, religious: Bavarian by birth, she became Duchess of Poland and was greatly devoted to assisting the poor, for whom she founded a hospice. After the death of her husband, Duke Henry, she spent the remaining years of her life fruitfully in the monastery of Cistercian nuns that she had founded, and where her daughter Gertrude governed as abbess. She died at Trzebnica in Poland on the fifteenth of October. Saint Hedwig, pray for us!

Friends, St. Paul boldly states that no anguish, pain, or suffering can separate us from God’s love. Instead, β€œin all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” How? Because Jesus goes into all of it. He enters it fully on the cross, and in the resurrection, he conquers it.

Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a nun of the Order of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary: she ran along the way of perfection in an extraordinary manner and, endowed with mystical gifts, she was particularly zealous in her devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, accomplishing much to promote that cult throughout the Church. She fell asleep in the Lord at Paray-le-Monial in the territory of Autun in France, on the seventeenth of October. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, pray for us!

This picture is from 7 years ago. We were building our Church so we prayed in a hall. We were praying a Holy Hour with adoration in honor of The Sacred Heart of Jesus. We began the adoration & a little boy in the front row kept sliding closer & closer to the altar. I leaned over & asked him if he would help me pray and he said yes. Let’s all slide closer to Jesus today. #talkedtotheboss

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at noon on Friday in the room set up on the 10th floor of Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office. Several members of Gemelli's medical and nursing staff attended the Mass, along with members of the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps. "In his homily, the Pope thanked all the staffβ€”doctors, nurses, and orderliesβ€”for the work they do every day caring for patients in their frailty, and especially for what they have done and continue to do for him," read the statement.

My heart aches for the children, parents, and families of Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. No family should ever have to experience such fear and heartbreak. Please know that you are not alone. I hold you close in prayer, and the Church stands with you in this time of sorrow. We entrust those who have died to the loving mercy of Jesus Christ. May He embrace the grieving families and bring comfort to all who are suffering.

Saint Teresa of Jesus, Doctor of the Church: she joined the Carmelite Order at Avila in Spain, and became the mother and teacher of the stricter observance. She envisioned the progress of prayer in her heart as the gradual ascent of the soul towards God, and underwent many trials for the reform of her Order, overcoming them with an undaunted spirit. She also composed works full of the most profound teaching, founded on her own experience. Saint Teresa of Jesus, pray for us!
