Unfortunately LLMs also turned this upside down. Now the pen travels faster than the mind, and the mind tries to make sense of loads of BS spewed by the pen.

1/ System Verification is completely different now. One of my friends in PL is worried about AI's ability to brute-force the proofs, which may invalidate decades of efforts spent for better proof techniques.
This is my first serious research project in my PhD. My goal is to verify practical systems and Welder is the first step. Verified controllers in Welder are still relatively simple but now agents are also becoming more capable (I feel quite relieved! Hacking proofs was not fun)

2/ I'm not an expert, but I think this also calls for better logics and unlock research opportunities. As a system person I'm actually quite happy that I can spend more time understanding the systems and writing beautiful specs.

I will present our Welder paper tomorrow at #SOSP Session 2C (Verification and Formal Methods). Welder is our second step toward an ambitious goal: verifying large-scale cluster control planes like #Kubernetes. 1/n

The arm race to brute force the results alienates the spirit of research. Contribution to human intelligence is what really matters.
We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics. The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra. The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years.

Tons of great perspectives from a systems professor 🥹 lots of great principles in systems research 💫 can be borrowed from and apply to ai agent systems - fault tolerance, recovery, formal methods, security etc 徐天音:系统,UIUC,教授,最佳论文,Agent Infra,云计算,形式化验证,容错,纯粹,好导师 youtu.be/N0QfgZsDBv8?is=yn45… via @YouTube
