ALT New York Isn’t New York Without Artists. A Policy Playbook to strengthen New York’s Creative Workforce & Grow a Just, Creative Economy for All. CRNY. HR&A.

ALT New York needs a Statewide Creative Economy Strategic Plan that funds portable benefits pilot programs and financial security tools for creative workers; increases public funding for economic development projects that integrate arts and culture; creates a statewide guaranteed income program; creates artist employment programs to address environmental, health, and safety needs in communities; and legislates prevailing wage standards for artists working on publicly funded arts and culture projects.

ALT At the end of the Guaranteed Income Program, artists were 17% more likely to report good mental and emotional health, 28% less likely to report feeling nervous, anxious, or on edge, 39% less likely to report feeling depressed or hopeless.

ALT “The guaranteed income had greatly impacted my life by allowing me to develop my design business without having to worry if the bills would be paid, or whether or not food would be on the table for my family. The funds were used to provide food for my family and to pay the bills while the funds brought in through my business were put back into developing the business which in turn, freed my worries and fueled my creativity.”
