🚶♂️What happens when @stephenboydecon walks into a @ScotParl committee room?

Some clean good fun was had at today's finance committee meeting 😄

🗣️🗣️Policies are not discussed in @ScotParl with the scrutiny and attention they deserve because committee members often talk past each other and resort to monologues.

From the interviews we conducted, I think there's a lot of potential for the Scottish parliament to be better because x-party MSPs themselves are frustrated with how it works. But they're held back by the way the institution works and the wider political ecosystem.
📢 NEW REPORT
It's not just the public who are disillusioned with the politics and policymaking in Holyrood. MSPs themselves have been feeling the malasie.
We know because former high profile MSPs told us so in a series of “exit interviews”.

❓How is the first minister going to deliver on his commitments in this afternoon's Programme for Government?
👀We will wait and watch.
Meanwhile, here's @stephenboydecon on BBC Radio Scotland setting out what we think should be addressed if we want to see significant progress.
Good to see @BBCPanorama picking up child maintenance as an issue - children of separated parents deserve financial security. Our 2025 report opfs.org.uk/policy-and-campa… sets out how child maintenance can be transformed to work best for children and parents.
👧👦This article highlights what we found in our two-year long research with @OPFS @FifeGingerbread & @PovertyAlliance: the child maintenance service needs urgent reform.
⚠️Too many children are being failed when separated parents can’t reach agreement.

⌛The political personalities in both Westminster and Holyrood are changing.
⚠️But the challenges facing the country remain stubbornly in place: weak growth, persistent inequality, climate change and an ageing population. (1/3)

Unpopular opinion: at a time when maintaining a functional state will definitely require more tax revenue, continually taking more people out of tax altogether is not a good idea
The reality is most people will need to pay a bit more tax, even if some should pay more than others

In 1998 and 1999, four of Britain's regions and nations voted for devolution. Since then, all have overperformed the rest of the country economically. Even Wales.
.
Also a bit of a rant about how London isn't the only big city in Britain. tomforth.co.uk/agglomeration…
A lot to agree with in this piece - devolution has not been a failure in Scotland, far from it. The larger question is how much of Scotland's economic (relative) economic overperformance was helped or hindered by decision's made in Holyrood. /1
London is to Edinburgh as Edinburgh is to Manchester (GVA).
I think Scotland could be doing better still & it’s true that not all its successes are due to devolution. Nevertheless, it’s a stretch to say that, in economic terms, devolution has ‘failed’.
