One hard downhill-style session protects the legs for weeks, but not forever. In 48 young men, a repeat eccentric bout caused less damage 3 to 6 weeks later, some protection remained at 9 weeks, and by 12 weeks it had gone. doi.org/10.1111/sms.70381

A great old friend passed away this week from a heart attack far too young. Please folks if you have chest pains that get worse when you are cycling up a hill, or going for a walk, or at rest out of the blue, and even more so if they go down your arm, or to you chin, or even if you feel dizzy and weak, get to hospital as quick as you can and save your life. Men in particular get into denial about these symptoms and think they can 'tough it out' and subsequently die in their late forties and fifties as a result. It is simple and easy to treat if you get to hospital in time. If not, then its into the cold, dark abyss forever, leaving behind a shattered family and you never having the wonderful reflective period which is old age... Heisenberg, Schrödinger, and Ohm are driving together when a police officer pulls them over. Officer: “Do you know your speed?” Heisenberg: “No, but I know exactly where I am.” Officer: “You were driving at 80 mph!” Heisenberg: “Great! Now I'm lost!” The officer searches the trunk. Officer: “There's a dead cat in here!” Schrödinger: “Well, now we know!” The officer decides to arrest them. Ohm resists. 😂

Our meta-analysis on LIT is out! We found a large effect on VO2max and a small effect on cardiometabolic health indices, mainly in untrained populations. Within our intensity limits (<60% VO2max), higher intensity was associated with greater VO2max gains. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

I was thinking how little research has been done on durability/physiological resilience in XC skiing. Fun fact: the first study on this topic may have been in XC skiing! In 1963, Åstrand et al. reported decreased VO2max and max workload after 85k race. doi.org/10.1152/jappl.1963.1…

You’re standing on a planet with molten lava at its core. Trees are turning sunlight into air you can breathe. Your heart is beating without you asking it to. There’s a moon in the sky and bugs that glow. This whole thing is absurdly beautiful.

Lactate isn’t just a workout byproduct—it also helps fuel muscle. New research in @AJPCellPhys shows that two lactate transporters help maintain muscle mass & exercise performance—and influence how muscle responds to insulin: ow.ly/nZtS50ZVzS3 #ArticlesInPress 📷: @iStock
