Illicit trade crosses borders. The fight against it must cross them too.
As Dr. DP Dash, Former Pr. Director General, DRI explains, global trade connects exporters and importers across countries, while enforcement laws have national boundaries. Tackling export fraud, import fraud and illicit trafficking therefore requires strong partnerships between domestic and international enforcement agencies.
Collaboration across borders is essential to disrupting illicit trade networks.

Illicit trade doesn’t just break the law. It tilts the entire playing field.
Legitimate businesses lose ground, livelihoods come under pressure and public revenue takes a hit, while those operating outside the rules gain an unfair advantage.
The damage isn’t confined to what crosses a border. It reaches markets, businesses and the wider economy.
When illicit trade wins, who pays the price?

A product is only what you see on the surface. The trail behind it can tell a very different story.
From suspicious shipments to hidden transactions, illicit trade operates through networks that often go unnoticed. Following the trail means looking beyond the product to understand what it takes to move it, and what is at stake when the law is bypassed.
Every product leaves a trail. The question is, are we looking closely enough?
